- Pet First Aid Course May 28 and 29, 2008
Offered for the first time ever, Centre LifeLink EMS is hosting a Pet First Aid Course with certification. You have your choice of either Wednesday, May 28th or Thursday May 29th and seating is limited to only 15 students per class. Students will learn basic care measures for pets that can ease the magnitude of their injuries and illnesses, as well as reduce recovery or rehabilitation time.

Dogs living in the kennels at PAWS are available to be seen at PAWS Adoption & Education Center on Sat. & Sun., 11-4. Most of the dogs living in foster homes can be seen at PAWS on Sun. from 12-2pm.
*** NEW Starting May 21st, we will be showing selected PAWS dogs on the 3rd Wednesday of the month at Lyons Kennels in Bellefonte from 5:30-7pm! Lyons Kennels is located at 1826 Zion Road.
In addition, we show selected PAWS dogs on the 1st Wednesday of the month at Petco in State College from 5:30-7pm.
If you bring your dog to the showing, please make sure …
- Your dog is up-to-date on all vaccinces, including bordatella (kennel cough)
- Your dog on a 4-5 foot leash (locked if it's a retractable leash)
- Do not allow any dog-to-dog contact during the showing, except under controlled situations.
- Do not bring treats, rawhides or other resources

JacksThis wonderful 2-year old male shepherd mix is friendly & outgoing! Jacks is a pleasant, well-behaved dog (although he does like to jump a little)! He is also very affectionate & loves to give kisses! If you pat your chest, Jacks will give you a hug by putting his paws on your shoulders! Jacks is very intelligent! He has lived with children as young as 5 years of age, & he is excellent with them! Jacks is also very friendly with other dogs, bit big & small! We don't know how is he is with cats, although given his friendly, outgoing nature, he might try to play with them by chasing them a little. Jacks is housetrained & neutered! He has been chained to a doghouse for the past 6 months, so he might need a refresher on housetraining. Now Jacks is living in a kennel at PAWS & he needs a home! |

NadiaThis 2.5 year old female husky/shepherd mix is very gentle! Nadia was abandoned at PAWS, so we don't know much about her. However, we do know that she is good with other dogs! Also, Nadia knows 'sit'! She seems to be housetrained & crate trained! We don't know how she is with young children, but she is probably fine with older children who know how to properly treat a dog. Nadia has 1 brown eye & 1 blue eye! She is very striking! Nadia is living in a kennel & needs a home! |

MissyThis 11-year old female shitzu needs a home because her owner is no longer able to care for her. Missy is a couch potato! But she also loves to go for walks! Missy is good with small dogs, but she doesn't like big dogs. We don't know how she is with cats. Missy is fine with children who know how to handle her properly. Missy is used to using piddle pads & exercising on walks. She can not be crated under any circumstances. Maggie becomes very agitated in a crate, & in fact she lost the sight in her one eye because she hurt herself trying to get out of a crate. Missy is just the sweetest dog! CharlotteThis adorable female terrier mix needs a new home! Charlotte is about 3 years old, and she only weighs about 12 lbs! Charlotte was left at PAWS, so we don't know too much about her. She seems to be housetrained. We suspect that she will want to sleep with her person. Charlotte can be "yippy" sometimes. We do not know her history with children, but we suspect she would be fine in a home with children who are old enough to know how to properly handle a small dog (about 10 years or older). Charlotte will be spayed before she is adopted. Charlotte is living in a kennel & needs a home! |

KramerThis 5-year old male tricolor beagle is a lovebug! Kramer is outgoing & friendly! Kramer loves to cuddle & to be next to his people! He is also extremely energetic & loves to go for daily walks & runs! Kramer really enjoys being outside with his people! He has been exposed to children of all ages & is good with them! Kramer is also good with other dogs & cats! He loves to play with his stuffed squeeky toys & balls! Kramer doesn't like loud sounds. He has jumped a privacy fence in the past, so he needs a home where he will won't be unattended when he is outside (especially if he is in a fenced yard). Kramer has a glorious sounding bay, & he likes to sound off when he is excited. Kramer is housetrained & crate trained. He weighs about 20-25 lbs. Kramer is living in a kennel & needs a home! |

JoyThis beautiful 13 inch tri-color beagle could give the Westminster winner a run for his money! Joy is the mother of the Jamie, Jayne, Josie, Juliette, Jordon, Jeffrey, Jasper, and Justin. Joy was found as a pregnant stray, so we don't know her history, but she is friendly and loving and bounces more than she walks. No squeeky toy is safe from her playful attentions! She can be food aggressive with other dogs. When not around food, however, she gets along well with the other dogs in her foster home. She will chase the cats, but not in an aggressive way. MelissaThis 5-month old female beagle/border collie mix is a doll! Melissa (called Missy, for short) only weighs about 20 lbs right now. She is an active dog! Missy is also very affectionate! Missy loves to give kisses! She is wonderful with other dogs & cats! Missy has been around children as young as 9 years of age, & she does fine with them! Missy will dart out the door & run off, so she needs a home in which the doors stay securely shut. Missy has made great progress on her housetraining, although she will have accidents sometimes. She does not like the crate & will carry-on when in it. Missy engages in puppy chewing behavior, which is typical for a pup of her age. Sometimes she will get carsick. SheilaThis black lab mix is a wonderful, loving dog! Sheila has a beautiful wavy black coat! She has lived with children as young as 10 years old, & she is wonderful with them! However, she is too strong for a 10-year old child to walk. Shelia loves cats, & is okay with little dogs (like yorkies). However, she is aggressive with larger dogs. Sheila has lots of energy! She will run out the door sp she can go for a run! Sheila is about 8 years old; she is already spayed & housetrained. |

JayThis 9-month old lab/husky mix is all puppy! Jay is very playful & full of energy! He craves attention! Jay was found starving by the side of the road several months ago. The people who found him nursed him back to health, but they weren't able to keep him. So that's how PAWS got him! Jay is good with children of all ages, but he will knock them over. He seems to be good with other dogs & cats, although he will bark at cats! He loves to play with his rope toy! He also loves fetch! Jay likes to sleep on a big fluffy pillow! He is nearly housetrained, although you need to watch him. Because Jay was found starving, he likes to have some food in his dish at all times -- it helps calm him. Jay doesn't like loud noises or fast moves. He does bark when he is excited. He doesn't like to be left alone. Jay will be neutered before he is adopted. SkyThis little guy is a lovebug! Sky is an 8-month old beagle/pug mix & has a face that will make your heart melt! (Sky has been affectionately nicknamed Warthog). He is very loving! Sky loves to follow his foster dad whereever he goes! He looks big in his picture, but he is a little guy, under 20 lbs. Sky seems to be okay with other small dogs, although he does seem to be dominant. Sky is living in a foster home with cats & he is fine with them! Sky is housetrained & crate trained. Because of his behavior in the kennel, we will not place him in a home with young children (under 10 years). |

He also has some dominance issues, & needs a home with an experienced handler who can work with him on this. Jack would do best in a home without young children. ChanceThis 1.5 year old male lab/husky mix has lots of energy & loves to run & go for walks! Chance also loves people! He lives with a 10-year old child & has been exposed to toddlers. He is excellent with everyone! However, Chance is very hand shy, although he improves once he knows you & you work with him on this. He can also be fearful in new situations. For these reasons, we recommend a home with no children or older children who are used to handling timid dogs. He is also good with cats & most other dogs! Chance likes to chew on his bones. BayaThis little 7-year old male pomeranian needs a calm home! Baya is a wonderful dog for an adult living in a quiet home! He is excellent around cats if the cats are calm. Baya becomes disturbed if there are loud noises. The loud sounds get him upset & he then will go into a barking frenzy. He will become aggressive with another dog when he's in that state. For this reason, we think Baya should live as an only dog. He loves his stuffed football sqeaky toy! He walks well on a leash! Baya doesn't like cars, laundry machine & people leaving the house. DryfusDryfus is a male shepherd/lab/husky mix & he is just a little over 1 year old! He is a wonderful dog! Dryfus is outgoing & playful! He is a only weighs about 50 lbs., although he is long-legged. He is good with other dogs. However, he will bark at cats & go after them in a non-aggressive way. Once he gets used to the cat, he will go up to a cat & bob his head at the cat; if the cat hits him, he walks away! Dryfus is very energetic & will knock a small child, such as a toddler, down. However, he has been exposed to children ages 2 - 6 years & he has been fine with them! Dryfus is housetrained & cratetrained! Dryfus is living in a kennel & needs a home! GladysThis 5-year old pug just wants to be loved! Gladys lived in a barn before she came to PAWS, & so she needs work on housetraining. Gladys would do best as the only pet. We don't know if Gladys has been exposed to children. And so, a home with mature children who know how to handle a small dog would probably be fine. Gladys is living in a kennel & needs a home! |

Layla
A Lonely Hearts Club DogThis poor little shepherd/keeshond mix desperately needs a home! Layla is 7 or so years old & she has been living in a kennel for months! She just needs a home to hang out in! Layla is homeless because her family divorced & was no longer able to keep her. She is beautiful! She is also very sweet! Layla is a quiet dog. She is a little shy at first, especially with men, but she comes around with a few gentle words & some patience. Layla knows 'sit', 'down' & 'paw', although she doesn't always respond. She lived with cats & was fine with them! We don't know how she is with other dogs. Layla weighs about 40 lbs, but is a little thin due to the stress of living in a kennel. Layla is housetrained & cratetrained ! Please try to make room in your home for Layla! Layla is possessive over her treats (at least when she is in a new environment), so she would do best in a home with mature children or no children. |

Nickie A Lonely Hearts Club Dog
This 16-month old female pup was found as a stray with her brother, Clay! Clay was adopted, but Nickie still needs a home! She is just so sweet & loving! Nickie is a calm & affectionate dog! All of the PAWS volunteers just love her! Nickie only weighs about 40 lbs -- so she is smaller than what her picture makes her look. We think Nickie is an Am. Staffordshire terrier mix. She might also be mixed with doberman or greyhound. Nickie needs a home with no other dogs or cats. Nickie is frightened by some men, especially those that look sort of "wild", and she will sometimes react aggressively to them. For this reason, Nickie will be placed in a home in which everyone is skillful at handling dogs with her issues. Nickie is living in a kennel & needs a home! Lassie
A Lonely Hearts Club DogThis 4-6-year old purebred white german shepherd desperately needs a home of her own! Lassie is very gentle with people! She enjoys riding in a car! Sometimes Lassie is frightened of men & boys (it might be their deep voices that frighten her), but other times she is fine. She would probably do best in a home with older children or no children. Lassie can be protective of her person, so she will need a home that can give her the structure she needs. Lassie seems to be fine with small dogs. However, she will guard her resources with bigger dogs. She does not like cats. Lassie is housetrained, although she will have accidents when she is upset. Mona
This gorgeous Staffordshire terrier is very friendly! Mona is about 2 years old. She has lived with a baby & did well with the child! However, she can be shy around strangers, so a home without young children (under 12 yrs.) would probably be best . She is already house trained. Mona is also spayed. SpotsThis 1-year old female Am. foxhound mix is beautiful! Spots is very loyal to her person & so very sweet! She will bond closely to her person. Spots is protective of her person, & will make a wonderful companion & guardian for a single person. Spots is housetrained & cratetrained. (She loves her crate!) Spots is an alpha dog & would best as the only dog in home. She will bark & chase cats. Spots needs a calm, quiet home. A home with no children would be best. AndreThis little teacup poodle is a lapdog! Andre was rescued when his owner suddenly died. Andre LOVES to go for walks, even in the cold! He will show his pleasure by spinning in happy circles! He is timid when you approach him, although he likes to check out people who are at his level (sitting on the floor), or are offering "cookies." Andre is good with other dogs & cats! Andre is housetrained & prefers to go outside, but he will use a training pad, if necessary . Andre is older. Because he is older, he will not be placed into a home with younger children (under 12). |

GigiThis little teacup poodle is a lapdog! Gigi was rescued (with the other little poodles that are available for adoption through PAWS) when her owner suddenly died. All of these little poodles are older. They are timid when you approach them. However, Gigi is very affectionate & loves to be held & cuddled! She is very lively for her age! Gigi loves to prance & march! She is adorable & a wonderful companion! Gigi is cratetrained & making good progress on housetraining in her foster home. A Lonely Hearts Club DogThis 8-year old yellow lab mix is very sweet & calm -- especially with her person! Scully is very affectionate & is a wonderful housedog! She would love to camp out on someone's couch! Scully enjoys being with adults -- both men & women! She seems to be okay with cats. However, Scully is not good with other dogs or children. MaximilianThis german shepherd mix is a friendly & outgoing dog! Maximilian (Max, for short) has lots of energy -- but not so much you can't keep up with him! Max can be protective of his home. He is okay with older children, but he has a problem with some young children. He seems to be good with other dogs, but he doesn't seem to like cats. Max is about 8-9 yrs. old. Beagle Puppies!These 8 adorable beagles are Joy's puppies (Joy is also available for adoption). They appear to have some bassett hound in them as well, so they will be a bit bigger than a beagle, maybe 35 pounds. The 3 females and 5 males will be 8 weeks old and ready to go to their forever homes on April 16. They are friendly, playful, and inquisitive. They are up-to-date on their shots. Rusty the sheltie mix

This beautiful, sweet sheltie mix is about 10 years old. He is very sweet & gentle! Rusty is good with other dogs & cats. He has been around children & is good with them! Rusty enjoys people and other dogs, ignores cats (even when they try to play with him), and is a very low-energy pet! Rusty doesn’t jump up on people or furniture. He likes to bark hello at cars and people passing by. Rusty needs a relatively quiet family who will brush his long flowing hair, stroke his silky head, and make sure he eats only his special anti-allergy food and treats. He needs a constant supply of water because of a long-standing kidney ailment—and therefore needs to go out every 4-5 hours. (He can make it through the night okay). Because of a previous skin allergy, he comes with his own medicated shampoo. (Please don’t use anything else.) He will return your love many times over. GeorgeThis 3-year old male jack russell terrier is a very good dog! George needs a new home because his owner wasn't allowed to have a dog where he lived. George lived with children aged 9 & 13 years old, & he was wonderful with them! He was also around 9-10 month old babies & he adored them! George also loves other dogs & cats! George wants to be cuddled & hugged! He loves attention! George is protective of his people, so he will growl at a stranger that approaches one of his people in a threatening way. George is a very energetic dog, so he needs a home that can exercise him properly! He loves to go for car rides! George is housetrained & cratetrained, although he hasn't been crated for a couple of years. However, he will mark when he goes into a new home. George will be neutered before he is adopted. BowieThis gorgeous female shepherd mix is about 7 months old and as sweet and playful as can be. Bowie is living with other dogs and is doing well with them. She still has lots of puppy in her but tries hard to remember not to jump or take things off the counter. She loves to run and play chase with the other dogs in the house and to be near her person: she’ll sleep at your feet or sit by your side. Maggie LynnThis 10-month old female St. Bernard/collie mix thinks she's a lapdog! Maggie Lynn (Maggie, for short) is very freindly & lovable! She is good with children of all ages, although she will jump on them. She is also good with other dogs -- she loves to play with them! We don't know how Maggie is with cats. Maggie is partially housetrained, but she is cratetrained. She likes to sleep in her crate at night -- just say "night-night" & she will go right in! However, she likes the blanket in her crate smoothed out before she will goes in & she will cry until you smooth it out. Maggie is very energetic & will jump around on a leash. So she will needs a home who can give her the exercise & training she requires. Maggie loves to be combed! She also loves belly rubs, sqeaky toys & an old shoe to have as her own. (She won't rip apart her family's shoes if she has her own shoe). She is about 60 lbs. & nearly full-grown. Maggie will be spayed before she is adopted. Maggie is living in a kennel & needs a home! PamThis 6-year old female pug is a very happy & loving dog! Pam only has 3 legs. She was hit by a car a few years ago, & the leg wasn't properly treated, so it had to be amputated. Having 3 legs doesn't slow Pam down, though! Pam is good with other dogs & cats! Pam is good with children who are old enough to know how to properly handle a small dog (about 10 years or older). BeccaThis 7-month old golden retriever/white german shepherd has lots & lots of energy! Becca loves everyone, including other dogs & cats! However, she does jump on people when she first greets them, & will knock toddlers & other young children down. Also, because of her energy level, she tends to be too much for older dogs to handle. Becca loves to please her people! She is also very bright! Becca is housetrained. However, she will dribble the first few days she is in her new home, especially if someone raises their voice. SammyThis 1.5 year old male rottie mix is adorable! We're not sure what Sammy is mixed with -- maybe beagle or corgi! He has the face of rottie & the long body of a beagle or corgi! Sammy is very friendly & playful! Sammy is a stray so we don't really know much about him. The people who found him had him with their dogs for a few days & he got along with them! We think he is at least partially housetrained. We don't know how he is with cats or children. We think he would be fine with mature children who know how to handle a dogs (10-12 years or older). SunshineThis beautiful female yellow lab loves people! Sunshine is about 3 years old. She is energetic, but at the same time, she loves to just hang out & sit at her person's feet. She rides very well in a car! Sunshine is a stray, so we don't know much more about her. We suspect that she is housetrained. Sunshine will be spayed before she is adopted.
