AdrianaAdriana's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic ShorthairDOB: 05/01/07 From Adriana's foster: "Adriana is a delicate green-eyed beauty. She's a bit shy but warms up quickly. Large dogs do not intimidate her and she likes other cats. She moves so smoothly that it's almost without any sound. Her favorite toy is the plastic ring from a plastic milk container. She hides them under the rug. She likes to snuggle and be held once she's comfortable with you and will follow you around the house. She needs to be loved and in her forever home. She'll make a wonderful companion." ADOPTED 2/9/08 |

ArielAriel's bio at the time of adoption: Female, Domestic ShorthairAge: ~9 months (April 2008) Bright-eyed, beautiful and sweet! Here's her first report from current foster mom: I am a fun-loving, outgoing girl who’s usually very busy. I love to explore every inch of my home, and although I’m not interested in going outside, I love to watch through an open screened window, feel the breeze in my face, and daydream about chasing the birds and squirrels in the tree line in my backyard. But when I’m done exploring and watching, there’s nothing I like better than curling up in foster mom’s lap or in her arms on the desk while she types on the computer. ADOPTED 4/23/08

BabyBaby's bio at the time of adoption: Male, Domestic LonghairDOB: 04/05/08 Baby was a lone kitten found in the middle of a road in State College. Luckily, some nice people scooped him up and he made PAWS his temporary new home. Baby is very playful. He loves to play with the 'big' cats and will not bow down to any of them. He'll even stand up to the two resident dogs in his foster home, one of them weighing 70 pounds. Baby is very active and plays hard. He does tend to scratch and bite when he 'plays'. He does not bite or scratch to be mean, but this is part of his very active, kitten-behavior. He is an expert, wiggle-worm and when he's ready to leap, there's no holding him back. That being said, Baby’s foster mom wouldn't recommend him for a family with young children. Most children want to hold their kittens and carry them around....maybe too much so for a rambunctious little guy who, at this time in his life, has places to go, people to meet, things to do! And unlike so many "teenagers" who resist being toted about, Basie doesn't complain at all. He just relaxes and enjoys the ride! Betty and WilmaBetty and Wilma's bio at the time of adoption: Females, DOB: 06/07Betty is the shiny black and white domestic shorthaired kitten in the photo. Wilma is the steel gray longhair. October 25, 2007 "True to their Flintstones namesakes, Wilma takes the lead in most things and Betty happily follows behind. They have made remarkable progress in their foster home, gradually losing their shyness, purring immediately, now grateful for the love and affection heaped upon them. Wilma and Betty love to be brushed, petted, and even held for short (but gradually increasing) periods of time. They can be easily handled for nail clipping or other necessary grooming/sanitary functions. Their curiosity is starting to show and both have learned that playing can be lots of fun, Wilma on the floors and chairs with her toys, Betty taking a break from the toys to see how high she can climb. In their foster home, the girls have become closer and more affectionate with each other, making them a perfect pair for adoption, but they can also be adopted separately and will do well." -- Foster mom Betty and Wilma like to be side by side looking out at the world of the cattery when they are at the PAWS center during adoption days. Blake, Byron and EmersonBlake, Byron and Emerson's bio at the time of adoption: Males, Domestic ShorthairDOB: 08/18/08 Meet the "Victorian Poet" named kittens and read foster mom's words about them: Blake, the little black kitten, is outgoing, friendly, and adventurous. Byron, the light grey fellow, is cuddly and has a purr that goes on and on. Emerson, the dark tabby kitten, is more reserved. He likes to watch before joining in at playtime. Once he gets to know you though he's just as friendly as his litter mates. "It is said that poetry is often born from tragedy or suffering. Before coming to PAWS, these kittens had a rough beginning, which a sibling of theirs did not survive. Remarkably, they hold no grudge against people in general from having encountered one with a cruel streak. They are ready to love and be loved, and no kittens could deserve it more. CalvinCalvin's bio at the time of adoption:
A Lonely Hearts Club cat Domestic Shorthair, Male (neutered) Well, he’s done it again! Calvin….our feline equivalent of the famous “Calvin” (and tiger Hobbes)….has changed the rules. Our Center bad boy, at least while AT the Center and when confined for too long, took a 180 during the week of the move to our new facility. He designated himself mascot of the move, thoroughly enjoying his week-long freedom among the many volunteers packing our belongings for the big day. He delighted in being the only cat asked to stay and help, and he especially pigged out on all the attention paid to him when volunteers needed a “kitty fix” and a break from the drudge. Calvin is, after all, an attention-seeker, and sole, undivided attention was all it took to transform bad boy into a bump and rub, openly affectionate love! The “new and improved” Calvin was moved to one of the large, open Sunrooms at the new Adoption and With the Grand Opening coming the next weekend, we all wondered how Calvin would adjust to sharing “his” room with other cats, all of whom had been fostered through the transition. Surprise, surprise – the new Calvin appears to be here to stay! He spent a good part of the Grand Opening closed in his cage without a complaint. Only Dahlia stayed beyond the weekend and, with both cage doors left open, Calvin actually enjoyed her company….well….he enjoyed jumping into her cubicle and stealing her food! So that Is our Calvin the feline descendant of comic strip "Calvin"? Sure is! ADOPTED 6/11/08

Candy KittensCandy Kittens's bio at the time of adoption: Top row: Reeses (male), Snickers (male)Middle row: M&M (female), Skittles (female) Bottom row: Kit Kat (female), Hershey (male) These kittens are high energy kittens! Believe it or not, these kittens are all from the same litter--obviously the same mom, but probably two different daddy's. They are a playful group and are very, people friendly. As soon as their foster mom walks into the room, they swarm around her, chirping little meows. They tend to be right in on the action. These kittens like to play with their toys and each other, but once they settle down, they enjoy getting lots of attention from their person--that's when the purr-box kicks into high gear. With so much energy, maybe you want to think about adopting two kittens--they can keep each of company and have a playmate! ConnieConnie's bio at the time of adoption:A Lonely Hearts Club Cat
Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair June 2007 Hi, my name is Connie; my foster mom likes to call me Con-con. I don't know why she calls me that, but I don't really care that much. Although sometimes I may seem grumpy at the Center, I really am quite a love--HONEST! I don't want to make excuses for myself, but let me explain just a little. Sometimes I get so overwhelmed in new or noisy situations--I think you humans would classify me as an introvert. I really like to meet people, but I just need to get to know you a little more slowly than some cats would. Although this may seem weird to you, I like to smell who you are--that is how we can meet. Yes, contrary to many people's theory about me, I am very shy. Ya finally did it Con Con......you conned foster mom into saying, Con Con, you've found yourself a home dear girl...right here and forever! Have a long and happy life with crazy mom! They are playful, affectionate, and loving, and their curiosity knows no bounds. When first coming to PAWS, they were permitted to roam the Med ISO room while waiting for their foster mom to pick them up. They managed to pass the time by shredding a roll of paper towels and opening a bag of pill pockets (tiny tasty treat pockets which can be used to make pills more palatable for cats) which they naturally ate because it was, after all, consumable! DebussyDebussy's bio at the time of adoption:Female (spayed), Domestic Longhair ~DOB: 04/15/07 From Debussy's foster mom: "Debussy is a beautiful long-haired cat, the last kitten from a litter of other little composers. Debussy is a darling cat looking for a dependable and loving owner. She composes her own music via her sing-song talking but she knows when it is bed time and is as quiet as a mouse. She will need to have her coat brushed regularly, which she *loves*. She is very good about getting her nails trimmed also. She mostly enjoys hanging out in the lower traffic areas of the house although she does enjoy bird and squirrel-watching from the windows. Right now, she is not a lap cat but perhaps with the right person she could be. Will you be the duet partner for Debussy to practice "Clair de lune" with?" ADOPTED 11/15/08

DukeDuke's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair~D.O.B. 2-9-07 A really handsome guy with tabby markings on his head and tail. From Duke’s foster parents February 2008 It has been about 4-5 months since Duke started hanging around our house and about 1-1/2 months since we brought him inside, so we've gotten to know him fairly well. When he was outside, he always came running to greet us when he heard us approaching the house. He seems to very much want a family of his own and he has adopted us for the time being. Duke is a very affectionate cat, and although he has not directly interacted with our cats, we think that he’d be good with other animals. Because our cats are older and set in their ways -- and because our three are finally getting along after many trials and tribulations! -- we decided to keep Duke on our large enclosed porch. But he can sort of interact with our cats through the windows and glass doors to the porch and he seems to want other animal friends. We have also seen him with another neighborhood cat and he was very good with that cat. As far as his relationship with us, Duke is always excited when you pet him and he lets us pick him up regularly to pet him. He also loves to play with toys -- we made him a string with a bell and he loves it -- plus, he'll dance in circles for his food, he gets so excited! We have only good things to say about Duke's personality. He's affectionate with people, he very much likes being petted, he's always excited to see us, and he's very good with us. ADOPTED 3/19/08 |

He loves to be petted and, like “bro”, is a lap cat. Dumpling is easy to pick up and handle, and he really likes being brushed. He’s great with his scratching post and litterbox. Dumpling usually doesn’t demand a lot of attention, but he’s not adverse to having lots of it! Not to be outdone by Ajax, Dumpling is playful and inquisitive too. ADOPTED 4/27/08 |

EllaElla's bio at the time of adoption: Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 06/12/07 One of this year's momcats Meet the Queen of Jazz, Ms. Ella (Fitzgerald)! Although not much more than a kitten herself, Ella is our undisputed Mom of the Year! Ella came to PAWS in April, and shortly thereafter gave birth to a single baby girl. She named her Rosemary (Clooney). Rosie, by the way, is growing up to be the spittin’ image of her mom! Ella was barely learning what parenting was all about when three orphaned musicians arrived at PAWS desperately in need of a mom. Ella looked them over, thought they had good potential for joining her band, and named them Basie (Count), Bix (Beiderbecke) and Benny (Goodman). Everyone had just about settled into rhythm when…..oh no, another orphan came to audition! Hey, we can improvise – that’s what jazz is all about! Dizzy (Gillespie) joined the group and all made music together until it was time for the little jazzies to move on. Whew! If anyone is ready to get some loving of HER own, it's Ella! Ella is a real sweetheart who loves affection from her person. For a time, she lived with other cats and dogs in a foster home and everyone got along fine. She wasn't buddies with any of them....heaven only knows she probably just needed some time to sing solo! At Wiscoy, visiting dogs are an everyday occurrence -- Ella calmly says hello and doesn't seem to mind them at all. Please visit Ella and let this pretty young gal jazz up your life! He purrs when you hold him. He purrs when he looks at you as if to say: 'I just love you!' He pets your face with soft paws. He never uses his claws. He's a calm kitty and would love nothing more than to sit on your lap while you read or watch TV. He likes to play with pens and pencils and kitty toys of all kinds. If you want to play, he'll play; if you want to sit, he'll sit with you. He just wants to be where you are. He's a very easy cat to love." ADOPTED 2/2/08 |

Ginger PeachGinger Peach's bio at the time of adoption: Female-spayed, Domestic ShorthairDOB: 06/21/06 Hi! My name is Ginger Peach, and as you can see, I’m an orange tabby female, which I understand is kind of rare. What’s even more interesting about me is that my rescuers are certain that my daddy is Regan! If you’ve been looking at this website recently, you’ve seen my dad’s mug shot (you can see him now on the Adopted 2008 page) and you probably read that Regan is the “gentlest of giants”, the “mellowest of yellows". Well, I’m no giant, but I definitely inherited my dad’s color and his gentle disposition. If you liked Regan but really wanted a girl…..here I am! I don’t remember how it happened, but about a year and a half ago I was separated from dad and the rest of the family and lived on my own until this past February. To my initial horror, I was seduced into some big, scary thing called a “trap”, was brought in from the cold and since then have been enjoying the warmth, excellent cuisine and affection of my foster family. Whew…was I ever lucky. No more traps though! :) Being a typical orange tabby “alpha” (that’s what foster dad says anyway), I get along well with dogs and am learning to be nice to other felines. I love to play with all the toys foster dad has for his “kids” as he calls them, and I think I might enjoy playing with those little human kids ‘cause foster dad says I have gentle paws. I also have a first class motor, meaning I have a built-in purr machine. But please don’t try to make me sit in your lap for any length of time. There’s just too much fun to be had – toys to play with, birds to watch, nooks and crannies to investigate! Laps might appeal to me once I have the time to try them out, though. If you think I could be your type, give me a chance and you'll find I'm just as special as my dad. --Ginger Peach ADOPTED 4/27/08 |

Hansel and GretelHansel and Gretel's bio at the time of adoption: Domestic ShorthairsHansel (in front) is a cute orange and white male tabby. Estimated DOB:10/01/07 Gretel (sitting up) is the gorgeous torbie and white female. Estimated DOB: 9/01/07 Hansel and Gretel make us think of a little boy, a little girl, gingerbread houses, white pebbles and bread crumbs. Our little boy and little girl are of the feline variety, their house is a cage or a foster home, and they are still waiting for their fairytale ending. Extremely close and devoted to each other, they are typical kittens. They love to play, take naps curled up on top of each other, and are very affectionate lap cats. Although not siblings, they are the perfect brother/sister combo. The storybook ending for Hansel and Gretel brought them to their home and loving parent...could you be the fairytale ending for the feline Hansel and Gretel? JillyJilly's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 08/10/07 Jilly is a gentle and quiet girl, still a little shy and unsure about us humans. In her foster home, she is affectionate and loving, well mannered and obedient, curious and playful, but it has taken time and patience for her to adjust to a home environment. She gets along very well with other felines, in fact, so well that it may hinder her learning to trust and bond with her human family members. Jilly might do best as an only cat until she forges a solid relationship with her person(s). At that point, you could think about introducing another cat if you think a feline friend would be good company for her. KaylaKayla's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), front-declawed, Domestic Shorthair~ 3 yrs. old Kayla, a lovely adult cat, is new to PAWS (in late July 2008). She's still a bit nervous at the center, having lived on her own outdoors for at least the past three months. But she wants affection and will bump and rub, purr, lift her back end high in the air and then roll over for a tummy rub. Although she invites the belly rub and enjoys it for a bit, she may give you a light little nip to tell you "that's enough". Once she becomes completely comfortable with humans again, Kayla's going to be a wonderful companion for the lucky person she chooses as her own. The way to her heart? Try a little Fancy Feast! Time for this pretty young mom to find a home of her own! From foster mom – February 1, 2008 Mandy is a very sweet girl who came to my foster care right before Christmas. She was timid at first and did not want to be held or cuddled, but she has warmed up very nicely. So, don't be fooled by her shyness at the center and please don't miss the kindness and sparkle in her eyes. She has been exposed to cats and big kindly dogs and seems to enjoy their company. MiracleMiracle's bio at the time of adoption: Female, Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 02/14/05 February 21, 2008 Hi -- My name is Miracle. The volunteers at PAWS couldn’t help but name me Miracle after they heard about all the hardships I’ve been through. As you can ‘see‘, no pun intended, I’ve lost an eye. Don’t let that fool you. I don’t even notice it’s not there. It’s just my way of winking at you! You would think after all the things that have happened to me, which aren’t very pleasant, I would be scared of everything. Not so….I love people. I even like the resident cat where I’m currently living. We hang out a lot . There also are a couple of dogs here, and they’re ok, too. You will notice that my purr-box goes full speed when I get comfortable with you. I really like rubbing up against faces and just receiving lots of attention. I adapt quickly to any place I go, because I know how lucky I am to be alive. Not only do I have the people at PAWS and my foster mom who love and care about me, but I know I have a guardian angel; otherwise, I wouldn’t even be here! Love, Miracle ADOPTED 4/4/08 |

Miss Pee Wee is a six month old special needs kitten. The first few months of her life were very difficult. PAWS volunteers and her PAWS foster mom nursed her back to health and she is doing very well now. She loves to play, play, play! Miss Pee Wee is being fostered in a home where she lives with three other cats. She has the sweetest personality and loves to be carried around the house. (Sounds like foster mom has her spoiled and rightfully so!) Also, she enjoys lying on the sofa in the evenings while her foster parents watch tv. In addition, she delights in playing with her very own special feather toy, and she loves playing with long hair. Miss Pee Wee would be a wonderful addition to any family. MoiseMoise's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic ShorthairAge: 8 yrs. (in September 2008) Front declawed Moise (pronounced mo-eez') is a big guy with a big personality to match. He likes affection and petting. He often instigates the affection himself by coming over and rubbing into your legs or even jumping onto your lap. But when he's had enough, he's had enough, so pay attention to his body language, please. Mr. JigglesMr. Jiggles's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Medium HairDOB: 04/24/08 Well as you can see from his photo, there are times that Mr. Jiggles doesn't jiggle. He is a really playful little guy though too. Mr. Jiggles has grown a bit since he first came to PAWS, but he maintains his soft and consistent good looks as you can see by comparing this new photo by clicking on this image to see the larger image and his first one. He's still waiting to jiggle his way into an adopter's heart. Here's what his foster has to report: " Jiggles was one of our favorite foster cats ever. Don't let his tough guy facade fool you, he is very loving. He prefers to be held on his back, like a baby. He is very playful. He will amuse you as he amuses himself batting small plastic objects tirelessly across the floor. He will curl up with you in bed but beware, he will leap at your feet if you tease him under the covers. He'll hide under the bed and lap at your feet. Jiggles gets along great with other cats. He misses his best buddy, Pete. He would do well in a home with lots of activity, maybe even a dog. Loves canned food but eats dry food as well. Loves treats. May need a second litter box as he has mistaken a box and plastic bin. " ADOPTED 12/23/08 |

MysteryMystery's bio at the time of adoption: Female-spayed, Domestic ShorthairAge: 5 years (May 2008) “Mystery” is somewhat of a mystery. She was the beloved companion of a gentleman who recently passed away, and his family and friends can’t tell us too much about her. They did tell us that she lived with a grumpy 10-year old calico and the two got along fine, also that she is accustomed to spending time both indoors and outdoors. From what we’ve observed so far, she doesn’t seem to mind staying inside. Mystery is a big, lovely girl with a rich, silken tabby coat and huge, trusting eyes. She’s calm and easy-going, curious, not at all threatened by strangers, and gives every indication of becoming quite the lapcat. Being PAWS’ resident cat at Wiscoy, Mystery will get a lot of attention from many different people. She’ll meet the Wiscoy dogs and customers’ dogs as well as the other rescue cats being shown there. So it shouldn’t be long before we’ll be able to tell you much more. Stay tuned! May 30 update: Okay, we've learned one thing already. Mystery LOVES canned food and would rather not eat than eat the dry stuff. Prospective adopters take note...she will NOT give in! :) ADOPTED 6/12/08 |

NellNell's bio at the time of adoption:Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair One of this year's momcats! Foster mom's report: Nell is an exceptionally loving and adaptable cat. When her foster mom came to pick her up Nell greeted her with a purr that lasted most of the way home. She has been a loving and attentive mother, and has taught her kittens to come running for pats and attention when anyone enters their room. Now that they are old enough to be on their own, she enjoys hanging out with Mom, sitting by her feet and waiting for an occasional pat. She gets along well in a houseful of other cats and a dog, but what she really wants is a person of her very own to love. ADOPTED 9/6/08 |

OliviaOlivia's bio at the time of adoption:Very sweet cat needs a special homeFemale (spayed), Domestic Shorthair, FIV+ Had enough of kitten antics? Want just one beautiful lap cat? Go no further…Olivia is looking for you! Olivia is 3-4 years old, spayed and up-to-date on her vaccinations. Having had a rough start in life, she deserves a quiet, loving, indoor-only home where she can climb into your lap, put her paws on your shoulders, and cuddle to her heart’s content. Olivia was a stray, constantly being picked on by other roaming cats. A caring family took her in, but their own cats simply would not accept her. So back outside she went until she could come to PAWS. Not surprising, given her history of being victimized by other cats, Olivia tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). But safe at last in her foster home, Olivia is looking great, feeling great, and ready to find a loving family that understands FIV. To minimize risks to her health, she must be kept indoors and should not be with other cats unless they, too, are FIV positive. Olivia cannot transmit the FIV virus to you or to anyone in your family, and she cannot transmit it to a dog or to any other animal except fellow felines. Please give Olivia a chance. With your love and just a little extra care, she’ll give you joy, companionship, and much love in return. ADOPTED 6/9/08 |

Oreo was very thin when she came to PAWS, having been rescued from life as a "single mom" living paw to mouth....so to speak. The fact that her babies all were healthy and strong is testament to her protective devotion and care. Oreo and her family spent time in one of our colony rooms and adjusted quickly to life on the inside. Oreo decided she much prefers being top cat on a fuzzy indoor cat tree than on one with leaves and bark! When you meet this gorgeous cat, you will see immediately how she got her name. She's got little round black circles surrounded by white on both of her sides. Her nest now empty, Oreo is most deserving of a life of leisure in her very own loving home. ADOPTED 2/16/08 |

PiePie's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic ShorthairAge: ~2-3 years (March 2008) Front declawed Look familiar, you say? Those who check out our website on a regular basis might think of Mr. Bojangles…maybe Zack….if you go back a couple of years, Martin Luther Kat, a.k.a., Melkat! Pie is a composite of all these guys…a handsome, lovable and fun cat who is just what the doctor ordered for a lover of BIG cats. He may try to bite your fingers if you pet him too much, but he stops when you say “no” and, in his foster home, has learned he’s better off just walking away when he’s had enough. Smart fellow! Pie’s foster mom tells us: “It took a few days for Pie to warm up to me at the house, but I think that was in large part due to my having another cat. When I kept them separated at first and went in to socialize with him, he came right up to me to play. Within a few days, he was like that anywhere in the apartment. Pie is very curious, but not troublingly so. He wants to know what I'm doing in kitchen, for example, but he won't rummage through things left on the counter or stove. He likes my other cat, I think, more than she likes him right now. Whenever she's had enough with him, she lets him know vocally. He stops, then backs away. He won't confront her or intentionally antagonize her. Pie is very playful, but like my cat, he doesn't go for regular cat toys. They both prefer milk container rings! I have half a dozen or so scattered about the apartment and periodically one gets "attacked". Pie also prefers my sofa to the cat bed, but then again so does my cat.” Pie did get into a minor scuffle with two of PAWS’ other big boys, Doc and Wyatt, but we don’t know who started what. Listening to what foster mom reports, though, we think that if he goes to a home with another cat, Pie would probably do better with a self-confident female than with another male who’s too much like himself! Although we’ve never seen him around a dog, our guess is that he’d get along fine. Come meet Pie – he’s a big, friendly hunk ‘o’ love! ADOPTED 6/7/08 |

PoshaPosha's bio at the time of adoption:Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 05/07 Foster mom's report on this pretty girl: Before she originally came to PAWS, Posha was on her own, trying to survive. Her contact with humans had probably been less than ideal. She's been in her current foster home for 5 months and has made lots of progress. However, her major connections are with their cats, one in particular. She began jumping into bed with her foster family, and then began verbally requesting affection and finally began laying on her “Mom’s” chest, purring and requesting affection. Recently, she got onto her Mom’s chest and went to sleep for awhile before awaking and leaving the bed; she came back shortly and snuggled up against her side, purred, and off to sleep she went again. Unfortunately, as long as she continues living in her current home, one of their cats will be her foremost love. In a new home, once she was comfortable, she would place her trust and love in her human. Posha needs someone very special as her person. Posha is a very sweet little girl and has excellent personal habits. She would be best in a home with no other pets. She is a wonderful and fantastic little kitty and will make the right person and household a lovely new family member. Posha needs someone with a lot of nurturing, patience, and understanding; someone who is willing to give her the time she needs to feel comfortable and safe. ADOPTED 1/12/08

Princess PeachPrincess Peach's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 03/06/06 Princess Peach was the first momcat to arrive at PAWS this spring, and a devoted mom she was to her three handsome little boys. She was a protective mom, too, which made her very wary of people. In a foster home for the past several months, Peachie is still very shy but has progressed a lot. She absolutely LOVES to be petted and will purr and purr….and purr. She’s getting braver and will at times now approach her foster mom asking for attention. She reached a significant milestone at the end of October, when she allowed foster mom to hold her for the first time without getting upset. Peach is very scared at the center, but loves one-on-one attention so long as the person is gentle and goes very, very slowly. There have been no conflicts with foster mom’s other cats and Peach keeps her distance from the dogs, but will tolerate nose sniffing! Princess Peach is a very gentle, quiet girl who will blossom in a quiet home with someone willing to let her come along at her own pace. Each week she shows that she trusts her foster mom a little more and is starting to look forward to their interactions. Pretty Peach is deserving of her very own loving home. Please open your heart to this lovely momcat And take note of her gorgeous golden-orange eyes! ADOPTED 1/6/08 |

ReganRegan's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair; microchippedDOB: 06/03/03 Looking for the gentlest of giants? the mellowest of yellows? Well, look no further! Head straight on down to Wiscoy in State College and meet Regan (if you choose to spell his name “Reagan”, he won’t mind). Regan has had a rather colorful history....a life that’s taken so many twists and turns that many cats, by this time, would be unnerved. What in the world is going to happen next? Some cats might even squirrel themselves away in a dark corner for awhile and simply chill. Not our Regan….this guy has mastered the art of going with the flow and is always happy to meet someone new….new people, a new dog, a fellow feline. Although Regan has spent most of his life so far (at least the life we know about) with men and, most recently, with a large, kindly dog, he crawled right into PAWS volunteer Mary’s lap at Wiscoy shortly after he arrived. He allowed another volunteer to trim his nails with nary a whimper, and went peacefully with yet another volunteer to the vet for a combo test (he tested negative for both feline leukemia and feline immunodeficiency virus). To our knowledge, he has never experienced life with children, but we have little doubt he’d do just fine with kids. Regan lived outdoors, pretty much fending for himself, for quite some time. More recently, he spent his time both indoors and outdoors, “helping” with the gardening and yardwork, playing with his “bud”, the dog, probably even helping to plow the snow! So we suspect he’d prefer his new life to include at least some safe, supervised outdoor time. He would never again want to be outdoors at night – he wants to sleep in a nice soft bed, preferably with his person – and, of course, he suggests that you don’t let him outside until he’s comfortable with you and his with his new home. If you want a mellow yellow, go meet Regan and do it very soon. He won’t be with us for very long! ADOPTED 4/9/08 |

ReneeRenee's bio at the time of adoption:Female (spayed), front-declawed, Domestic Shorthair DOB: 05/27/03 Renee was a miracle kitten, now "reborn" as a sweet, bump and rubbin' adult cat. Renee (meaning reborn) has quite a story to tell. Renee’s mom, called “Happy Hop Along”, was a proud mother-to-be when tragedy struck. As her story has been told, Happy was hit by a car, lost her babies, and was found nearly dead by the side of the road. A good Samaritan brought Happy to PAWS where we settled in to help her recover from her injuries and overcome her fears. But not so fast! On examination by the vet, we learned that Happy was with kitten again! Off to a foster home she went, and within two days, one little “miracle” baby came into the world weighing all of 5 ounces! Happy and baby Miracle thrived under the watchful eyes of their foster family and before long, both were adopted. Renamed Renee, wee miracle kitten is now a beautiful, all-grown-up adult of 4-1/2 years. After being the only cat in her household for that time, she was absolutely, in no way ready to share her home with a kitten. So when her parents rescued a stray and brought him home, Renee showed them her displeasure in unacceptable ways. Now she has had her world turned upside down and is trying to cope with being returned to the only other home she has known. She is sad, frightened and confused, just as her mother was when she first came to PAWS. But a sweet and beautiful girl she is and, with a new foster family to dote upon her, we have no doubt she’ll quickly regain her confidence and be ready to be “reborn” into a lifelong home.....as the only cat. My name is Rosie and I would love very much to go home with you. Because I’m soooo shy at the Center (look for me curled up in ‘Sunshine’s Spa’), you probably won’t believe it when I tell you I can purr very loudly and I love to be cuddled. I get along well with all the cats I’ve met so far, and I love to play with toys. I was a mom this past Spring (would you believe, all three of my kids were orange!). My children all have found good homes, thanks to PAWS, and now it’s my turn. I am very neat and clean and have NEVER missed the litter pan. Though they get into a lot of kitten-type trouble....ahem...mischief....they also are very affectionate and loving and definitely are lap cats. SamanthaSamantha's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic ShorthairAge: 4 years (May 2008) Front Declawed Samantha is a lovely young calico cat. From Samantha's foster: "What a great kitty! She was so scared when she first came to our home (and why not with two dogs and a toddler!). In the few weeks we've had her, she has begun to blossom. She is a lover! At night when the toddler is in bed and the dogs are quiet, she becomes a different kitty-exploring, purring and playing. Everyday she is becoming more and more brave! In the evening she becomes a panther on the prowl! Once she's done her rounds, it's time for loving. She loves a warm lap. At first I thought she would do best in a quiet home (which she may prefer) but I'm starting to see her adapt slowly to both the toddler and at least one of the dogs. If you have love for this beautiful kitty with amazing eyes, she will return your love tenfold!" ADOPTED 8/1/08 |

For several months, he was cared for by a group of university students who found him hanging out at the PSU deer pens. How he ended up there we'll never know, but as winter approached, his caretakers knew it was time to find him a warm place to go and a lifetime home. Sandman hadn't been with us for very long before he and all of our other cats and kittens went on "Christmas vacation" in foster homes during the three weeks that the adoption center was closed. SassySassy's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed) Domestic ShorthairDOB: 02/12/08 Hi – my name is Sassy! My foster mom gave me that name because I was always sassing my pregnant-again Mom. I was rescued with my Mom from someone who didn’t want us and was planning to shoot us! :( I wasn’t very pleasant at first (can you blame me, being unwanted and all the rest of it?), but with lots of love and attention, I’m a great kitten now! I have been around small kids and other cats and that doesn’t bother me a bit. In fact, I like it because I get so tired I sleep great at night. The only thing I’m not fond of is being in a crate to go to the vet or anywhere else. So when you see me here at PAWS, I might not be so happy at first….and I’ll be sure to tell you how I feel….but I’ll get used to it. Even though my foster home is great, I would love to find my forever home soon. Just look into my tiny face and you will love me. And I promise not to sass you...at least not very often! I'll be easy to find at the Adoption Center. Just follow the sounds of a kitten who really wants to get out of there and into a home. I'm a happy kitten when I'm not confined and can be around someone who loves me. ADOPTED 9/13/08 |

ShamrockShamrock's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Medium Hair~DOB: 08/07 Just take a look at my eyes and you’ll see why they call me “Shamrock”! That, and because I came to PAWS just a few days before the month of shamrocks, the wearing ‘o’ the green, green beer, and ….oh don’t worry, I don’t indulge in any of that sudsy stuff. Water…and maybe a wee bit of catnip…that's all it takes to get me feeling frisky and rarin’ to go. Why just this past weekend, I was one of the cats featured in PAWS’ Fashion for Compassion Show. Yeah, me….walkin’ down the runway, just like the models. Well, not really – one of the volunteers insisted upon carrying me, much as I’d rather have gone it alone with my tail held high. This was quite an adventure, but I was told I “done good”. And now another new experience! Today I was taken to Wiscoy and I’m not entirely sure what to expect. But the other PAWS cats and my foster mom and dad told me it’s an honor to be here. They said I’ll get lots of attention and if I’m good, I might even find a permanent home. One thing my foster parents said to be sure to tell you is that I get along very well with “Friday” and “Desi”, the resident cat and dog. We get along SO well in fact, that I went a bit nutso when I was “quarantined” for a few days after being 'neuterized' and couldn’t be with them. I’d really, REALLY like to have a buddy in my new home! Cat or dog okay. -- Shamrock – 5/6/08 ADOPTED 5/18/08 |

ShansiShansi's bio at the time of adoption: Female-spayed, Domestic Shorthair, Front-declawedDOB: 04/05/01 Shansi arrived at PAWS feeling confused about what was happening to her and looking very thin and frail. She decided the best thing to do was to hang out under the covers! But when a volunteer would spend time with her, she couldn't resist both giving and getting affection. She still likes to hide out a bit at the Center --silly girl -- but she’s ready and anxious to find the special person who will love her forever. Have some TLC and a home to share with Shansi? From foster mom – May 2008: Shansi is a really sweet, affectionate and friendly cat. She is very shy at first and hides her face as tho' she's not there. But once she's comfortable with where she is, she's a different cat altogether. Shansi is a lap cat who loves to be petted and brushed. She is low-energy and doesn't play much, preferring to sleep or be in a lap. She's perfect for someone who doesn't like having to "entertain" a pet. Shansi is front-declawed, but still goes through the motions of using her scratching post. She's very gentle, can be a little growly and hissy when upset, but has never tried to bite or swat at me. She uses her litterbox without fail, doesn't throw her food around, and has extremely clean habits. All Shansi needs is a home of her own! Fare-thee-well dear girl and have a good life! We're going to miss you, but we're SO happy you found your home at last. ADOPTED 11/23/08 |

She has grown a bit since first being listed with her brothers, the other Sci-Fi Writer kittens. All are still waiting for forever homes. Shelley, of course, is hoping it will be ladies first, but will be happy for her brothers to find homes too. Shelley gets along with her fosters' resident dog and cat. Here's what her fosters have to say about her: "Shelley (Mary Shelley, the author of Frankenstein) The Girl Shelley is the only girl, living with three boys. She used to be afraid to play with her brothers, but has learned to play with them and makes sure that she gets her share of the food! Shelley is very sweet, soft and actually likes to be picked up most of the time. She still cries when her brothers abandon her, but she would love to find a home….with or without the guys." SkylarSkylar's bio at the time of adoption: Female-spayed, Domestic ShorthairAge in Feb. 2008, 6 years "Skylar" means providing shelter, and our Skylar is temporarily sheltered at PAWS while looking for her forever home. Skylar is very people-oriented and follows foster mom around wherever she goes, being the kind of kitty one of our volunteers refers to as a "love sponge." She will soak up as much love as you can give her, and then looks at you with those big beautiful eyes asking for more. She purrs pure contentment, is extremely affectionate, and is "a piece of cake" to handle, whether it's for grooming, medicating, relocating, holding, whatever you have in mind. Aware of her slow metabolism, but striving for the girlish figure she once had, Skylar is working toward a goal weight a few pounds lighter than she is now. With her determination and a little help from foster mom, she'll get there! In the meantime, she's looking for a family who will appreciate her loving ways and will love her in return. Maybe you can give Skylar her shelter forever! ADOPTED 3/8/08 |

SnowflakeSnowflake's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 12/03/06 A Unique "Snowflake" After showing up on a State College doorstep during the first snow of the year, Snowflake (a.k.a. Snowie) was rescued by a good Samaritan who had recently adopted a kitten from PAWS. This sweet, black and tan tabby was shy at first but soon came into her own as her self-confidence grew! Snowie is quite the playful girl, especially with feather wands! Please consider bringing this unique Snowflake in from the cold permanently! She could just melt right on your lap! ADOPTED 3/21/08 |

She's easy on the eyes, plays hard, and then curls up in your lap or your arms for a little snooze. A large measure of affection & fun in a small package! ADOPTED 6/8/08

SophieSophie's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 05/01/06 From foster mom February 2008 Sophie is definitely a homebody. Like so many cats, she does not like to be picked up but is very, very affectionate when you are down on the floor with her. She rolls over and likes to have her belly petted and purrs away. She will crawl onto someone's lap and stay there to be petted….until she decides it’s time to do something else. :) Life is on Sophie’s terms, so she probably should not be placed in a household with children. She would do best in a calm, soothing and quiet atmosphere...not in a busy household for sure. Sophie likes women but is a little afraid of men because she does not have a lot of experience being around them. I think she would readily adjust to a male with a gentle personality. Most of all, she needs an indoor home. Being outside is too much commotion for her...the world is just a little too big. Sophie is very loyal to people and adjusts to being around other cats. She’d do fine in a household with dogs although they may startle her at first. She does startle easily with any interruptions in her routine...she gets that concerned look on her face. (We often see that “concerned look” during Sophie's weekends at the Center). I think her reaction to disruption is to isolate herself from what is going on… which does not help when someone is trying to get to know her. But I can tell you that in the right home – a calm, gentle, quite home -- whoever adopts Sophie will be very pleased …they will have no regrets about choosing her. ADOPTED 3/15/08 |

SparkySparky's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 05/26/08 Sparky was rescued by holiday picnickers over the July 4th weekend. His favorite thing to do once he arrived at PAWS, besides try to get attention, was eat. Click to see larger photo for a glimpse of him back then. He was very thin and hungry. Now he's a budding and handsome young fellow. Here's what foster mom has to say about him: "Sparky lives in a home with several other cats and kittens and four dogs. He gets along well with everyone and even snuggles up for naps with the dogs. In fact, Sparky's very best friend is a dog! He is a very affectionate and playful kitten. He loves to sleep on his foster mom's lap or right next to her. He sometimes tries to "nurse" on people's necks and ear lobes. One look at Sparky's big round eyes and this adorable kitten will light a spark in your heart"! ADOPTED 12/23/08 |

SpiceSpice's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 09/01/99 No, I'm not one of THE Spice Girls - I'm one of the "Sugar, Spice and everything nice girls". I'm the oldest orphan -- 8 yrs. -- and it's been really, REALLY hard, after all these years, finding myself without my mom. I'm a friendly and sweet girl, and the PAWS volunteers tell me I'm quite lovely. It helps to hear nice things like that. One thing I really didn't like about this temporary home -- and I hope it's VERY temporary -- is the noisy door on this little cubicle they call my "cage." It scared me to death when someone opened or closed the door, so I begged the volunteers to just let it open. Since they've been doing that, I've ventured onto the two-level condo sitting right outside. I like sitting there in the open and am almost ready to jump down and explore the rest of my sunroom. There's some nice stuff in here....I just need a little more courage to go investigate. Maybe today. Update: Today has come for Spice. She's feeling much more at ease at PAWS, enjoying ALL the "nice stuff" in her room, and getting prettier by the day. "Oh Wow! TODAY really has come for me - today, January 19, I'm off to a new home and a whole new life!" -- Spice ADOPTED 1/19/08 |

SpikeSpike's bio at the time of adoption: Male, Domestic ShorthairSpike is a little on the shy side--until he warms up. He likes to sit back and observe, then he'll join in. He and Baby are pals, and will tumble and chase each other. Spike sometimes is content curling up inside his kitty-carrier. He's a friendly little fellow and quite entertaining. He does get along with other kittens and shares a room with an adult cat. He would make someone a wonderful friend and a great companion. Won't you give Spike that forever home he is looking for?? SugarSugar's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic Shorthair~DOB: 09/01/02 "Sugar and Spice and everything nice....that's what these girls are made of! " Like former housemates, Amber and Spice, Sugar suddenly found herself orphaned. For awhile, she was shy, sad and terribly confused by her new circumstances. She has become more at ease over time and now finds the various perches in her room much more appealing than remaining curled up in her bed all day long. If you speak softly to her, she's likely to come over for a chin rub or pat on the head, and if you listen closely, you'll hear a tiny purr sneak through. As you can see in her new photo, Sugar has become quite regal looking....thin at first, she's now the snowy white beauty we all knew she would be. She seems to think of herself as Queen of the Ball too! Sugar has come a long way since her arrival at PAWS. She's a real sweetheart! ADOPTED 3/2/08 |

Sweet PeaSweet Pea's bio at the time of adoption: Female (spayed), Domestic shorthair~DOB: 08/01/06 Adopt a momcat, please! Sweet Pea is one of last year's very pretty young momcats. She had a litter of six kittens (the "flower children" we called them), all of whom have been adopted. November 11, 2007 From Foster Mom: SWEET PEA certainly lives up to her name. She is a “with you” not “on you” cat who loves to be around people and to be petted. Sometimes she’s a little wary of hands at first, so you’ll have to approach her very slowly and gently until she’s comfortable. She is not a lap cat (yet) and prefers not to be held. She is easy to pick up, however, so long as it’s for a very short time. Sweet Pea was found outside with her “flower kids” (we have no idea how long she might have been out), so she could feel trapped when being held – don’t really know why. Since her kittens were adopted, Sweet Pea has become very playful and enjoys playing with anyone who will take the time with her. Enjoying a second (or missed) kittenhood I guess! Sweet Pea is an extremely clean cat and doesn’t seem to shed much (at least so far). She doesn’t scratch or climb, but she does jump….very gracefully. She doesn’t get into mischief (a rarity for a young cat), likes to be brushed, and LOVES her treats. Sweet Pea has adapted easily to routines, is reasonably comfortable with the household dogs, and so far shows no interest in going outside again. But she has told us in no uncertain terms that she's not fond of other cats and would much prefer to be the ONLY CAT in the home. If you'd like a one-and-only, a regal lady who will be a great companion, come to the Center and meet Sweet Pea! ADOPTED 1/26/08 |

ZackZack's bio at the time of adoption: Male-neutered, Domestic Shorthair, Front declawedD.O.B. 4-2002 Five years ago, when he was just a teenager, this handsome fellow was named after Zack Mills, Penn State's promising young quarterback. Like his namesake, Zack the Cat had all the qualities of a winner -- he was smart, fearless, quick, an escape artist, patient and oh so cool under fire. Indeed, Zack was a cool, cool cat. And among other cats, he was a leader....especially at the "training table!" Over time, quarterback Zack seemed to grow weary, while Zack the Cat just grew…and grew. Hours at a “training table” will do that. :) Watch him play now and he’s a linebacker! (Penn State fans may want us to rename him “Poz”). Look out toys…and feet! The famous (or infamous) Zack Attack is as powerful as ever. But as he continues to win some and lose some in the game of life, Zack the Cat is ready to call his last play at the line of scrimmage and move on. His foster family has found him to be extremely affectionate, very people- and lap-oriented, and unusually gentle-natured for such a big guy. Thrown into a team sport by virtue of his name, Zack the Cat has grown weary of fending off the blitz or, in his 'backer role, sacking anything but his toys. He's telling us that he’d rather while away the hours coaching his humans in the fine art of nuzzling....without having to continually look over his shoulder for an approaching tackler. Yup, number one and only cat status and a life of lovin' will suit him just fine, thank you. ADOPTED 1/12/08 |

And his foster reports that he's a real buddy for her in his foster home. He follows her around and loves having attention. He's ready to find his very own life-time buddy or buddies. (A note of caution: Being a "fair-haired boy", Zedd should be kept out of the sun to avoid the risk of skin cancers). ADOPTED 9/28/08 |
