Keegan and KenderKeegan and Kender's bio at the time of adoption: 8 yr. old, handsome as all get out, neutered, buff and white brothers and "buds." See if YOU can tell them apart! Allergies in their previous household brought them to PAWS, where they've been living without the benefit of a foster home to break the monotony. In the Center, K & K are bored to death. Two big boys crowded in a cage with absolutely nothing to do all day but...well, be bored. Unfortunately, to the potential adopter, a bored cat comes across as a boring cat...a stark contrast to the frisky, wide-eyed kitten one cage over. In a home environment, we can only guess. But consider two laid-back, bask in a ray of sunlight kind of guys who will be "low maintenance" additions to your family. No trouble, no curtain climbing, no need to keep them entertained. But try a wand toy or crackly ball and you just might unleash a bit of untapped "kitten" struggling to break free. You may be very surprised! Special diet required. Keegan and Kender must be adopted together.

AndyAndy's bio at the time of adoption: Andy and brother, Roger, are two of five kittens taken in by PAWS when they were just one week old. Their mom had given birth earlier this year, but the babies died due to her lack of milk. So Andy, Roger and their sisters were bottle-fed until they were six weeks old when they eagerly started munching solid food. Named after tennis champions, and thus fondly known as the "tennis kittens", sisters Serena, Lindsay and Wimbleton champ, Maria, all have completed their matches and gone home. Now for the mens' tourney! This is what Andy's and Roger's foster parents have to say: "We would like to emphasize that these kittens are very, very friendly and inquisitive. Roger (namesake, Federer), a tiny tiger, was the smallest guy during the first weeks of his life, and we almost lost him twice because he was so weak. Looking at him now, you would never know! Andy (namesake, Roddick) is a handsome black tiger. He and his brother are a joy to cuddle and play with. Both guys LOVE people and soak up attention. "In our home, Andy and Roger have become buddies with our two adult male cats, who passionately clean them and have taught them how to play chase and all that other good stuff that makes a cat a real cat. The three resident females have mostly resisted Andy's and Roger's charm attacks - hey, that's their loss, we think!
"Andy and Roger will fit into any home setting: a family with small children, a household with other animals - so long as their begging for love is answered…but then, it is just too hard to resist these precious creatures anyway." (Andy and Roger can be seen at the Center, or arrangements may be made to meet them in their foster home).

ArnieArnie's bio at the time of adoption: Hello! My name is ARNIE. Although I'm just shy of 3 yrs. old, I've used up several of my 9 lives already. Spent my early days homeless, just roamin' around lookin' for whatever I could find to eat, a place to sleep. Wasn't time to do much else. I kept hoping someone would take notice, see what a really fine boy I am, and take me home. I had SO much love to give, but not a soul to give it to! So much for "Arnie's dream".Instead, one awful day, some fool shot me in the face….a real bullet , mind you, not a pellet. The bullet passed through my cheekbone, sinuses and soft palate, leaving a gaping hole in the roof of my mouth, and exited through my neck. It's a miracle I'm still alive! I was in a WHOLE LOT of pain until a good person found me and took me to a doctor. I still have trouble eating and drinking…I wheeze and sneeze a lot in the process…'cause of that darned hole. And if that ain't bad enough, I'm now blind in my right eye. The vibration from the bullet, the doc hypothesizes, probably detached my retina. I'm scheduled for surgery very soon to repair the hole, but there's nothing much that can be done for my eye. In the meantime, some really nice people are caring for me and I like them a lot. Unfortunately, they can't keep me permanently. I'm a calm and quiet fellow and need my forever home to be the same. I can get along with most cats, but dogs scare me a little. If a dog is nice and calm around me, we could probably be friends. Same goes for kids. I'm shy at first (who wouldn't be given my history?), but once I get to know you and trust you, the possibilities are endless! With this surgery coming up, I can't go home with you immediately, but please don't forget about me. In fact, you can meet me now, say "Arnie, you have found your forever home and NEVER will be harmed again!", and then work with the PAWS people on the details. Meow.

AthenaAthena's bio at the time of adoption: "Impossible," you say. This is a kitten! This can't be a 3-year old (now spayed) mom! When she runs around the Center, Athea certainly looks like a kitten, plays like a kitten, and we sometimes get her mixed up with one of the kittens, but a mom she is. Athea and her girls, Nika (still looking for a good home too), Orenea and Calista, showed up as strays at a home already claimed by four strays who were staying. Very sorry, but no more room at the inn, pretty mom.Athea is a pretty, very smart and very sweet little (and we mean little) black and tan tabby. She has a way to softly let you know exactly what she wants, but she doesn't ask for much. Looking for a little gal you can hold? So many cats just tolerate the lap routine at best, but Athea goes limp in a lap and will stay there for as long as you want. She's also exceptionally neat…..doesn't shovel her litter all over, and when we go to clean her "house" at the Center, there's really nothing to clean! A quick scoop of the box and we're done. What more could you ask? This dear girl still has the spunk of a kitten and the look of a kitten, yet she's a mature, non-messy adult who communicates her needs tenderly but clearly and loves a lap. You've GOT to meet Athea!

BelkaBelka's bio at the time of adoption: Belka is a Russian Persian, one of a firstborn litter from two kittens brought to the US from Kazackstan. She is about 2 years old and a real beauty, inside and out, who is waiting for her coat to recover from two litters and the requisite nursing kittens that followed. She is a "Zen" cat...just looking at her has a calming effect on people. Her kitten, Mushka (Russian for "mouse"), was born in June of this year and is a Persian mix. Daddy was an American domestic large red tabby and white dude who used to live in the same house. Mushka is all white, like Mamma, but short haired.

BootsieBootsie's bio at the time of adoption: "Oh what a fine kettle of fish I got myself into! Actually, I wish I HAD a kettle of fish…or just a handful of cat kibble would do. You see, I've been high up in this tree for two days, and for the life of me, I don't know how I got up here which, presumably, is the same way I get down! No, the fire company won't come after me. The power company won't either?or the cable company?or any of the tree surgeons. They all think I'm perfectly capable of getting down on my own and that if they try to help, I'll just go higher...which I might if they scare me. Oh, oh - somebody's coming up?I don't know who it is…should I trust him? Should I go higher? Maybe I should just jump! Oh dear, what to do!?"Bootsie finally jumped, landed safely to the amazement of all watching, and from that moment on turned from being the shyest kid on the block to Ms. Sociability. This all happened at her former home, where she and companion Pepper lived for two years until their adoptive family "traded them in" for a baby. Cats will never understand this. After her tree adventure, Bootsie became a quiet, gentle, well-behaved 3 yr. old who loves being brushed to the point that she almost falls off of the perch in her cage when being groomed! She enjoys exploring the adoption center and has favorite spots by the windows, but only so long as no "meanies" are out at the same time. A couple of cats at PAWS have it in for Bootsie for some reason that we haven't quite figured out, so she's getting much appreciated weekday breathers in a foster home. Bootsie would be most happy in a new home with her lifetime companion, Pepper.

BristolBristol's bio at the time of adoption: Oh my, what a pistol, our little Bristol! High energy, rough and tumble, absolutely fearless, noisy when he doesn't get his way. But beneath that exterior of your "typical kitten" is the sweetest guy ever....and as most bundles of energy, Bristol settles quickly into sweet mode once he's had a chance to let off some steam.Bristol had some health issues when he came to PAWS, so for the first 6 weeks or so of his stay, he had to remain isolated from the other cats. His only "outings" were either trips to the vet or rides around the Center on a volunteer's shoulder. NOT a good way for a kitten to spend the most exciting time of his kittenhood…just ask Bristol! Yet he came to love the shoulder rides, and even though he now may run and play with the others, he still looks forward to being carried around. With his newly-found freedom, Bristol is way too active to be a "lap kitten" just yet, so we hope his adopter will continue the practice of toting him about several times a day. He loves the closeness, and this will be the bridge to his becoming an "everything you could possibly want in a cat" adult. Bristol is an 8-month old orange tabby male, recently neutered and given a clean bill of health by his doctor. Because of his very rough start, Bristol may not be declawed.

CharleyCharley's bio at the time of adoption: Hey, look what the wind blew in! Well no, not really. On the same weekend Hurricane Charley ravaged the state of Florida, some despicable "human" attempted to ravage this dear kitten. Charley (what else could we possibly name him that weekend?) was either hit by a car and the driver didn't bother to stop?or, more likely, was tossed from a car on a busy street. As his eventual rescuer drove by, she noticed two people hovering over an obviously injured kitten. The gawkers turned their backs and walked away.So Charley came into the Center frightened and hurting, huddled in the arms of the kind person who stopped to help him. When he tried to walk, all four legs splayed out from under him…he couldn't take a step. Now for the good news! Nothing broken or dislocated, no apparent internal injuries…but he sure got bopped pretty good. Charley stayed at a veterinary hospital over the weekend, where he started walking…one step then flop?two or three steps, flop. But he improved day by day, taking more steps at a time, and by the end of just one week, he was running (sideways sometimes with an occasional fall) after toys and playing under the bathroom door with one of the cats in his temporary foster home. Now staying with his very doting rescuer, Charley has turned into the playful, but extremely "grateful" and loving kitten he appeared to be from day one. After a scary, but very gentle introduction to foster mom's 3 dogs, Charley and one of the dogs vie for the same food dish! Charley's a lover, playful, very VERY brave and, it would appear, completely recovered. He's a kitten we would expect to do well in a variety of circumstances - with a single, doting mom or dad, a family with children, other cats and yes, dogs seem to be okay with him. Not to forget, Charley's a VERY handsome young fellow. One good thing to come out of Hurricane Charley - Charley the Cat!

ChelseaChelsea's bio at the time of adoption: It was a dark and stormy night. At last, here comes good ole Charlie Brown with my supper dish. What? The dish is empty?! And he's carrying one of those plastic things with a door! "I'm sorry, Snoopy," Charlie Brown said, as he put me in the plastic thing and then packed up my supper dish, my typewriter, house … everything I owned. "I've got allergies, Snoopy….the doctor says I must find a new home for you. You'll be okay. I'm taking you to the PAWS adoption center and they'll find a nice person to adopt you."Okay, so I'm making this up. I'm really Chelsea…a cat, as you can see, not a dog, much less the famous Snoopy. I'm a 6 yr. old black and grey tabby with lots of white, spayed, front declawed, current on my vaccines, had a recent dental. Sadly, my person did have to part with me due to a severe allergy. So why the Snoopy tale? Well, my favorite place to perch and observe the world is… are you getting it yet? Yes! On top of my doghouse…er...cathouse! You see, I have one of those covered latrines - don't know why - most cats hate them. But I make the PAWS people laugh, because in a floor-level cage, I'm almost invisible up there….until someone comes with my supper dish.
I'm a very sweet cat so I'm told. I like a lap and LOTS of attention. I'll do fine with another cat so long as I'm given time to adjust. Dogs, kids...I don't know. Never met one up close and personal. Because I'm front claw-less, I must always be kept indoors. If you don't have an allergy to cats and you're looking for Snoopy's kitty counterpart, come meet me at the PAWS Center. I'd really like to find a new and permanent home very, very soon.

CinnamonCinnamon's bio at the time of adoption: This girl remind you of anyone? Presuming almost everyone by now has seen Andrew Lloyd Webber's "CATS", remember old Grizabella, around whom the story unfolds? When poor Cinnamon came to PAWS, our first thought was "This is her! There really IS a Grizabella and she's here." Unlike Grizabella, though, Cinnamon's memories aren't of glorious days in the sun. Cinnamon spent the first four years of her life in a cattery cage doing what cats in cattery cages do. When she arrived at the Center, she really looked like the first picture we posted. Her coat was thin, dry, tangled and unkempt. She was not well. She was frightened, as you might expect, but we could tell that underneath the shabby exterior was a dear, sweet soul. Cinnamon is being treated for asthma, which means she can have a pretty rough time at the Center, but she has none of the other physical ills we expected to find. She is a beautiful, big, 6-yr. old Maine Coon, with penetrating jade green eyes and delightful ear tufts that, with her rusty color, give her the look of a bobcat. Cinnamon loves to be brushed and our volunteers love brushing her. Ever so slowly, her coat is thickening and beginning to shine….though it still has a way to go.We need to evaluate Cinnamon a little more thoroughly before she'll be ready for adoption, but her new picture reflects the progress she's making. In person, you won't recognize our Grizabella! We're confident now that her time in the sun will come.

EeyoreEeyore's bio at the time of adoption: Yes, you read that right. I'm Eeyore! Why anyone would name me after a gloomy old sawdust-stuffed donkey is more than I can fathom. Okay, Eeyore has his own website! Eeyore's got a fan club and all that, but for cryin' out loud?.he's still a donkey! I AM intelligent like him and usually pretty quiet, and yes, my house in the N. Atherton Street trailer park did come tumbling down. I lost my family in that unfortunate event?but I still have my tail! Eeyore the donkey never can find his tail!! And considering that I'm now residing in a cage at the PAWS adoption center and have an awful cold, I still think positive thoughts.I'm a two-year old handsome, neutered classic tabby. I spent some time with the person who rescued me from the trailer park when my family left me behind, and I just loved following her around and jumping on her lap soon as she sat down. I was a little shy at first…so much had changed?but soon I learned that the more affection I gave the more I got. That Pooh donkey, you may recall, spends most of his time alone in a thistly corner of the forest. He even eats the thistles! Gross! "The donkey thought sadly to himself, 'Why?' and sometimes he thought, 'Wherefore?'?and sometimes he didn't quite know what he was thinking about." I, on the other hand, know exactly what I'm thinking about. I'm thinking, "please, let me get over this cold." I'm thinking "cat food", no thistles thank you. But most important, I'm thinking "oh how I hope someone comes to the Center just to see me, spends time talking with me and says "Eeyore, you're the one. You're going home with me!"

EricEric's bio at the time of adoption: Imagine the gasps of patrons of a local business when, on the Sunday before Labor Day, a rather large, grungy-looking cat hurled itself through the ceiling and crashed to the floor among them. Unhurt from the fall, but looking in not-too-good a shape generally, the cat was scooped up by employees who called PAWS.The sad story of "Eric" is that his owner, who lived in a small apartment above the business, had passed away suddenly five weeks before. People knew that the person had been caring for a cat, but when no cat was found in the apartment, they assumed he was no longer there. Exactly where Eric was for five weeks, we have no idea - he was hungry, disheveled and dehydrated, but not nearly as bad off as we expected when we heard his story. Did he have a way in and out? Possibly. Whatever the case, he very wisely decided it was time to make him self known to the world, and he sure did it with a bang! Eric is a medium-haired buff and white fellow, around 3 years old, neutered and very, very handsome now that he's all cleaned up. He's a laid back gentle soul who loves the attention he's getting at the Center and is nonplussed by all the activity going on around him. He seems easy to please and quick to adjust to whatever comes his way. What more could you want?

GoliathGoliath's bio at the time of adoption: Imagine a 9-3/4 foot tall thundering, formidable giant stalking the PAWS adoption center, striking fear in the heart of every cat and kitten, challenging every "David" to take him on. "Choose from among you to come fight me," he postures.Wrong image. On the contrary, our one-year old red tabby is a big guy, but not that big, and he's one of the gentler giants among our current residents. In fact, Goliath seems to be a pretty calm fellow no matter what's going on. He's been seen playing nicely with the smallest kittens, and doesn't appear to show any aggression whatsoever toward the other cats at PAWS. He'd rather sit back and observe life, minding his own business and never causing any trouble. Goliath has lived in two kennel situations prior to coming our way, so he's used to seeing and hearing dogs, although we have no idea whether he's ever interacted with one. Goliath came to us with one small glitch on his resume - he's known to do "love bites". "Love biting" is otherwise known as petting aggression, meaning that the cat will tolerate just so much stroking and then say, with a nip, "no more, please." A love bite rarely breaks skin, and a cat usually gives some clear signal that it's coming - a twitch of the tail, slight tensing of the body, maybe a turn of the head - so the "love bite" can be avoided by an alert owner. Few, if any, of the PAWS volunteers have gotten any love bites from Goliath, but he does have this on his rap sheet, so he may not be suitable for families with small children, elderly members or anyone who wants a lap cat he/she can pet and pet for hours on end.

HermioneHermione's bio at the time of adoption: Hermione is a 3-year old, short-haired dilute tortie who came to PAWS with a brood of 6 we fondly call the "Harry Potter kittens." You may remember their curious names: Hagrid and Hufflepuff, Quentin and Quiddich, Myrtle and Raven. The kittens have been in good homes for quite some time, but poor, dear Hermione unhappily continues to wait. Her foster mom had to leave the country on a family emergency, so Hermione's "reward" for her tender, attentive mothering is a boring, lonesome life at the PAWS Adoption Center. It just ain't fair!
Hermione is a very loving, pretty cat with an apple shaped head and a compact "cobbie" body, much like an English shorthair. She resists being pulled from her cage ("I can get out myself!" she snaps), but just open the door, wait for a bit, and she'll come to you begging to be petted and loved. Sunbathing beneath a window is guaranteed to put a smile on her face, but she also can be quite lively if you initiate the play. Hermione deserves the good life...and she deserves it very, very soon.

JorjaJorja's bio at the time of adoption: When she was a wee kitten, about 10 days old, Jorja was found in a window well crying her heart out. Jorja's mother had moved her brothers and sisters to a new location but never came back for her. She was hand-raised and bottle-fed by a PAWS volunteer until she could eat on her own. Early on, she became a companion for PAWS kitten, Matty, who had to be separated from his brother because "bro" was sucking on him inappropriately. Good heavens, "bro"! Jorja was older, but was very nice to little Matty. She is named after one of the volunteer's favorite characters on the TV show CSI ....Jorja Fox, who is the actress playing the very studious CSI agent. :-) Jorja is very social and should be placed with another kitten or in a home with other well-behaved animals in order to be happy. She is not a "loner".

LaceyLacey's bio at the time of adoption: From Lacey’s foster mom: Lacey is a beautiful 2-year old calico with big, expressive green eyes that look right at you when you speak to her. She is a very special young girl looking for a very special home. Abandoned last fall while she was pregnant, Lacey was rescued by a kind veterinarian's assistant and shortly thereafter joined the Paws family. She was a conscientious mom who raised three great kittens, now all in adoptive homes of their own. Lacey was spayed after the kids left, and is very anxious for someone to fall for her as quickly as everyone fell head over heels in love with her kittens. Lacey is absolutely sweet, loving and totally people-oriented. She appreciates cuddling, has a wonderful purr, and likes to rub your ankles. She's very smart and enjoys playing with toys and people. Other cats and dogs, however, are not her cup of tea, so Lacey would flourish best in a home where she could be "queen bee? Give Lacey a chance and she'll return your love in a big, big way. |

LancerLancer's bio at the time of adoption: Lancer. Prancer. Fast-break dancer! This high-spirited, 6-mo. old teen will keep you dancin' til you drop! Lancer is one of a family of 8 of the most fun-loving, bright-eyed, energetic kittens to come our way in a long time. Named for jet planes, based on the speed with which they took off from the room in which they were being fostered (while foster mom was trying to keep them in, of course), the 8 looked so alike and were so similar in temperament, who could tell them apart? As they grew, the males distinguished themselves by their size - these are going to be tall, long, lean adults - and from there, we used the different colored collar trick. At 8 weeks of age, the "jet babies" tested positive for Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV). They were dropped off at a local veterinary hospital to be euthanized…but who could even think it?!?! Recent research has shown that many kittens who test positive for FIV at this young age will revert to negative within 3-6 months. A PAWS senior volunteer can tell you why this happens. Lancer and his brothers and sisters were, therefore, kept in a PAWS foster home - separate from the foster families cats - until they could be retested. NEGATIVE! YAY! A few veterinarians have advised that the "kids" be retested once more when they are 1 yr. old (again, a senior volunteer can tell you why), so until that final retest, it is best that they go to homes with no other current cats. Dogs are fine, and Lancer or any of his siblings probably would run the tail off your dog!
Despite Lancer's high energy quotient, when you've had enough, he's very good about settling down to being a loving, affectionate companion. Lancer and his siblings are all very social, very lovable and would be great for families with children.

LeoLeo's bio at the time of adoption: Leo the Lion was found by Suzie the Huskie...under her porch...on January 31st, one of the snowiest and coldest days this winter. Leo was very hungry and very sick, so all he could do was meow and spit at anyone who tried to help. Luckily for Suzie, he was, in her terms, "all bark and no bite." Since that day, Leo has put on some pounds, gotten rid of his nasty cold and a few hundred tummy friends, a.k.a., worms, and is looking for a new, permanent home (he's currently being fostered by Suzie and her family).
Leo's loud meows are now loud purrs. When you walk into his room, he turns into a virtual motor boat of purrs. He loves the attention of being petted and brushed and can never get too much. Although he still shies away from being picked up and startles at sudden movements, he's getting used to the idea of sitting on people's laps...thinks he may like this a whole lot eventually. Leo is a handsome red and white, medium-haired fellow, about two years old, neutered, and is good with other feline friends. He had a pretty rough start, but all he needs now is a gentle home and lots of TLC.

Levi and his friend (sister?), Linen, were taken to a local kennel, having been removed from a barn where they would have continued the cycle of procreation that leaves so many sickly and short- lived kittens and cats in it's wake. They came to PAWS after the kind hearted kennel owner took them in and got them neutered and spayed. Levi was extremely scared and hissy for a couple of hours, but has turned into a real sweetheart! He and Linen are in a wonderful foster home now and doing well! They may be seen at the Center on weekends.

MaybellineMaybelline's bio at the time of adoption: "Maybelline, why can't you be true? Oh Maybelline, why can't you be true? You've started back doin' the things you used to do."What do you mean why can't *I* be true?? The person who dropped me off on somebody else's property...I was in heat, to make matters worse...certainly wasn't true to me OR at all considerate of the people who then had to figure out what to do with me. And we didn't come in no Coup de Ville either! But that was then, and this is now. I was brought to PAWS and yes, I AM starting back doin' the things I used to do….which is to be a very delightful, active, communicative 2-yr. old "kitten." I'm also a beauty - medium tan and black hair, long cream-colored ear tufts, and perfectly lined "Maybelline" eyes…which is where my name really came from. Oh yes, and the PAWS people saw to it that I was spayed at once! I know now that there ARE good humans, and I'm so looking forward to finding one who will be true to me for the rest of my life. Trust me, the favor will be returned, and I'll do everything I can to make you happy you chose me. Oh, by the way, you don't have to have a Cadillac…a Ford will do just fine! (Biographer's note: Thanks, Chuck Berry, for the "inspiration").

MeemowMeemow's bio at the time of adoption: Meow? Meowmeow? MowmeOW? MEEMOW! That's it….that's my name! How I got this name, I'll never know. But it's alright I guess. At least it's not a human name - I hate it when humans name cats after themselves. Or, for heaven's sake, after some stupid thing like constellations! Can you imagine being called Andromeda? Or worse yet, Cassiopeia!? Even the humans can't pronounce that one and they expect the poor kitten to learn how to spell it?Anyway, I'm Meemow, a 2-1/2 yr. old black beauty, proud mom of Tobias, Hilde and Zimmer. I was wandering about, pregnant, with nowhere to go when a kind family took me in, gave me a warm, safe place to give birth, and helped me raise my kittens until they were old enough to be adopted. Unfortunately, our temporary family couldn't keep us 'cause they have three dogs….enough for anyone to handle I have to admit. My kids all were snatched up faster than I could blink, and that's given me a welcome rest from mothering. But the time has come to find a forever family for Meemow - this life in a cage business is stifling. I'm full of energy once again, very playful, and an all-'round good, friendly gal....a big kitten really. I like kids and other cats, and the dogs in my rescue family weren't at all bad. I could deal with that. Although I've been indoors for quite awhile, I'm still pretty darned interested in what's on the other side of that Center door. My adopter will have to be very careful at first about open doors, or I might let curiosity get the best of me and trek on out. Hopefully I'll go to a home with enough indoor space, maybe some nice window seats, that this won't be a problem. I sure don't want to do something stupid and end up back on the street. -- Meemow

MickeyMickey's bio at the time of adoption: "M-I-C…K-E-Y…M-O-U-S-E. Mickey Mouse, Donald Duck. Forever let us raise our banners high, high, High!" (Remember the old Mousekateers tune?) Well, our Mickey has a problem….there's no Donald, never has been, and no Minnie, no Dottie, no Tessa, Dustin or Smokey. The last five are Mickey's brothers and sisters, and every one of them has been adopted into a home of his or her own."But I'm still here," wails Mickey…with only his play mouse to keep him company. "Why doesn't anyone want me? I'm a nice little guy. I can't believe I've been left behind! Maybe it's 'cause some of the volunteers call me "Groucho". Yeah, they do, but it's not because I'm grouchy - it's because of my thick black eyebrows that remind them of Groucho Marx….those old enough to remember Groucho Marx , that is. Really, these eyebrows are my distinguishing feature - you're never going to find another cat who looks like me. I'm one of a kind! Not just another standard all-look-alike tabby. I'm playful, sociable, unique, and I'm very lonely. Please someone, pick me!" -- Mickey

NadiaNadia's bio at the time of adoption: I'm a 2-1/2-year old, spayed, dark calico named "NADIA". I had been a PAWS kitten who, for whatever reason, was originally called Naughtya. I carried that moniker into an adoptive home, only to be evicted last fall with the story that I was living up to my name...a naughty girl who didn't use the litterbox and was scared of her shadow and everything else. The first thing the PAWS people did was to change my name, and for that, I'll be forever grateful! At the adoption center, I was a little nervous at first, as I'm not particularly fond of other cats, but I don't tremble in my boots, even when the Center is noisy, or when they're running that thing they call the vacuum cleaner! I recently spent three weeks in a foster home and I adjusted pretty doggone well to all the new sights and sounds. At the Center, I didn't have much choice but to use my litterbox, being restricted to my cage most of the time. In the foster home, though, I had plenty of opportunity to show my naughtiness, but I didn't err even once! I used the box faithfully, I didn't claw the furniture, and my foster mom told me over and over what a very good girl I am. This means a lot...I can't begin to tell you how much!So now that I hopefully have the bad rap of "Naughtya" behind me, let me say that "good Nadia" has a very calm temperament, absolutely loves to be brushed, and especially adores having her tummy rubbed. I'm so very ready for someone to give me another chance. Let me show you that this name change really DID make a difference!

NefertitiNefertiti's bio at the time of adoption: You can see from my photo that I have the regal bearing of a queen. I'm Nefertiti, queen of PAWS cats! When I come to the adoption center from my foster palace, I occupy a throne high atop the other Center domiciles from which I quietly hold court. At 8 months of age, I'm a bit young to be queen, but ….my namesake was young too, comparatively speaking.Being queen of cats is quite an elevation in status for me. As recently as November, I was what humans call a "stray"….cold, hungry, a far cry from what I am now. The good people who took me in made me feel safe, secure and loved, and in return, I've bestowed upon them incredible sweetness, affection, and a constant purrrr! I love to be held and protected, and to sleep on my foster parents' laps while they're preoccupied with a strange box called "TV" or doing some equally weird thing they call "surfing the net." This probably isn't very queenly behavior on my part, but I reserve the royalty stuff for the Center. There are two adult male knaves in my foster home, and I like to play with them…in the middle of the night…if I don't get banished to the dungeon…and to curl up with them on the sofa. Court jester, Cesar, will lie right on top of me if I accidentally take his favored space. Pretty bold I'd say….does he forget I'm queen Nefertiti? Despite all the good things that have happened to me over the past few months, I'm still a bit shy and insecure in unfamiliar places. Strange sounds and agitation scare me, so I don't think I'd be comfortable with small children. Although it may be indelicate to speak of it, I must tell you that my bathroom habits are impeccable, and I faithfully scratch a carpet scratcher, never the carpet or furniture. I would never, ever think of making a mess. That would not be queenly.
(Nefertiti will be spayed before adoption).

Noir was found all alone in a basement, covered with dirt, unable to eat cat food because she hadn't been weaned yet. Her rescuers thought that they were hearing a bird, but it turned out to be this little kitten crying out for help. She continues to carry on quite a conversation when it is meal time, but after eating, she is very content to cuddle up with her stuffed animal "momcat" and her heated "Snuggle Safe". We will soon be merging Noir with some other kittens for social company and she will be available for adoption as soon as she is old enough.

PeanutPeanut's bio at the time of adoption: This 4-month old tortie is a little "peanut" alright….a cuter than anything, bouncy, pouncy kitten that will leave you in hysterics with her antics. Peanut was found in a culvert at Slab Cabin Park when she was four weeks old. In her foster home, she was an absolute terror with the family cats despite her vastly inferior size and her status as a "houseguest". Although any one of the other cats could have had her for lunch, Peanut fearlessly would jump on them and bite them til they screamed for mercy! Over time, she learned to respect her elders and occasionally allowed them to get her all gussied up, i.e., to groom her.Peanut gets along well with dogs and is appropriately cautious with them. She loves to play games of "chasing anything that moves", preferably if there's a person around to help keep the game alive.
Peanut loved her foster family SO much that she decided she'd like to stay there forever. When they first brought her to the adoption Center, she spent the weekend growling, snarling and, in general, acting like a spoiled brat. Her "reward" for this behavior was having to remain at the Center to learn more acceptable social skills! This she has done, and now Peanut loudly vocalizes for someone to "let me out of this darned cage, play with me, PAY ATTENTION TO ME! If you indulge me, I might even let you tote me around...for awhile." Peanut is still a little dickens, but it's all in fun and the PAWS volunteers just love her! Whoever adopts this pretty little girl will be in for a real treat.

PepperPepper's bio at the time of adoption: The eyes tell it all. But those eyes definitely have softened since this photo was taken. Pepper, like her companion and soulmate Bootsie, was a former PAWS cat who was returned to us several months ago when her adoptive parents had a baby. Pepper is very shy in new situations, but she is not at all mean, hissy or growly. She enjoys being petted, she thinks…but isn't quite sure what it all means, so she'll scoot away and hide if she can. Over time, she's becoming more accepting and trusting of people, particularly in her foster home, and she's doing a lot of curious exploring at the Center when she thinks no one can see her. Pepper needs a quiet, patient home…a person or family who will let her feel her way along slowly and not demand too much of her too soon. Pepper definitely misses Bootsie when they are separated for any reason?this rises almost to the level of separation anxiety. So it's very important that Pepper and Bootsie go to a new home together. They will be wonderful companions for each other and for their new person(s).

PoshaPosha's bio at the time of adoption: Big, beautiful Posha looks like she just emerged from the forests of northern Maine. Sadly, this lovely 6-1/2 yr. old Maine Coon lived in a cage on a "kitty farm" for the first 4 years of her life. She is understandably skittish and will dive for cover in a new environment. She surprised her foster mom, though, by emerging from under the bed within hours and, in a loud voice, demanding attention. Foster mom tells us this about Posha:"Posha has a roaring purr and a very affectionate temperament. At the first sudden movement or loud noise, however, she's back under the bed in a flash. Having twin preschool-age daughters, who are made up almost entirely of sudden movements and loud noises, probably explains why Posha spends her days under the bed, turning into our hunka-hunka-burning-kitty- love only at night or first thing in the morning. She has warmed up a bit to the kids, as they're attempting to control their exuberance and be more gentle. "Surprisingly, this scaredy-cat didn't flinch when coming face to face with our very large Golden Retriever. She also shows no fear of our cat, who has just recently become an "only cat" and is a bit grumpy about giving up that position of honor. "In spite of their long coats, a Maine Coon is a relatively low-maintenance cat. Posha doesn't shed nearly as much as I expected her to, but she loves being brushed, even in sensitive places like her belly where many cats don't like to be touched. Also common to the breed, Posha is a "sit-beside-you" cat rather than a "lap" cat, but she is highly personable and starting to bloom with regular affection.
"Posha is fairly independent, so she would be a good choice for a working person or family. But keep in mind that she has not had an easy life and deserves every minute of affection she can get when her person(s) is home. She would do fine in a family with dogs, other cats or older kids, but she's not the best choice if you're looking for a cat "for the kids.""

Quasar (Riley)Quasar (Riley)'s bio at the time of adoption: Calling all astronomy buffs! Last chance! There were the "constellation" kittens earlier this summer - you may remember them…Orion, Andromeda, Castor, Casseopeia. Then came brothers, Eclipse and Quasar. Eclipse totally captivated an adopter last weekend, so better beam yourself over and out to the Center before Quasar waves bye bye too! Here's what foster mom has to say about this energetic little guy. "Quasar is about 5 months old and appears to have some Maine Coon in his heritage. Playful and rambunctious, he's also extremely affectionate and quite the talker. Fitting his name to a "t"…or "Q"…he's always broadcasting, from near and from afar. Seems he has something to say about everything! "Having had the pleasure of fostering this fellow, I can attest that Quasar would be extremely useful in ridding your house of flies and moths, as his pursuit of them is both clever and relentless. He's a good-looking kitten, with symmetrical markings, a long bushy tail, and a white chest and stockings. Quasar is a people cat, likes to nuzzle his head in your neck and knead your chin with his big feet. He loves window shelves and lots of toys, especially fuzzy little white mice. For the family in search of a big lap cat, this is the one. Get him now while you can still enjoy the little kitten he is."

ReamyReamy's bio at the time of adoption: "Archer! Steppe! Where'd you go?!? There were three of us. Then, just like that, one of you, then the other, was snatched away and I was left behind. I feel so unwanted. I'm all alone! What's wrong with me?""Nothing's wrong with you, Reamy. You're still a little shy and maybe you didn't "sell yourself" to Archer's and Steppe's adopters, but you're getting braver every day. Just be patient….your forever family will come along. In the meantime, you're not all alone. You've got lots of friends at the adoption center and you're noisy enough that no one can ignore you. You just have to learn not to panic when someone responds to your calls!
Reamy was, indeed, a shy little kid, having come to PAWS at the age of 5 weeks following the tragic death of his mother. He's come a long way since then. Whereas he once simply huddled in sheer terror behind one of his brothers, Reamy has now become quite vocal, is excited about exploring his surroundings, and loves to play with his toy mice and wrestle with the big guys. Reamy is now 7 months old, is neutered, has all his vaccines and is looking for that special someone he can trust to never, ever leave him behind.

RoarkRoark's bio at the time of adoption: We wonder if the person who named this guy ROARK ever heard him rrroar(k), as the larger species of orange felines are prone to do?!? At the PAWS center, we didn't hear so much as a squeek out of him. In fact, ROARK is the most mild-mannered, laid-back, good-natured gent we've met in awhile. ROARK is a 7-year old, neutered male orange tabby. He is very lovable, enjoys a good lap, and revels in being brushed and petted. He's the perfect "dad" to young cats and kittens, grooming them, playing with them and always letting them eat first. Last May, Roark was diagnosed with diabetes, making him a "Special Needs" cat. He has been in a foster home since then where he's being treated with diet alone (no insulin), and it seems to be working well. Roark would dearly love to find a permanent home, but it needs to be one in which his diet can be strictly maintained. Please give this wonderful guy a chance...your reward will far outweigh the little extra care you must give. |

RogerRoger's bio at the time of adoption: Roger and brother, Andy, are two of five kittens taken in by PAWS when they were just one week old. Their mom had given birth earlier this year, but the babies died due to her lack of milk. So Roger, Andy and their sisters were bottle-fed until they were six weeks old when they eagerly started munching solid food. Named after tennis champions, and thus fondly known as the "tennis kittens", sisters Serena, Lindsay and Wimbleton champ, Maria, all have completed their matches and gone home. Now for the men's tourney! This is what Roger's and Andy's foster parents have to say: "We would like to emphasize that these kittens are very, very friendly and inquisitive. Roger (namesake, Federer), a tiny tiger, was the smallest guy during the first weeks of his life, and we almost lost him twice because he was so weak. Looking at him now, you would never know! He and brother Andy (namesake, Roddick), a handsome black tiger, are a joy to cuddle and play with. Both guys LOVE people and soak up attention. "In our home, Roger and Andy have become buddies with our two adult male cats, who passionately clean them and have taught them how to play chase and all that other good stuff that makes a cat a real cat. The three resident females have mostly resisted Roger's and Andy's charm attacks - hey, that's their loss, we think!
"Roger and Andy will fit into any home setting: a family with small children, a household with other animals - so long as their begging for love is answered…but then, it is just too hard to resist these precious creatures anyway." (Roger and Andy can be seen at the Center, or arrangements may be made to meet them in their foster home).

RustyRusty's bio at the time of adoption: This little tyke was rescued by neighbors of people who moved away and left him behind. He's just 10-11 weeks old! When and why did these people get a kitten in the first place?!? We'll never know. The neighbors began feeding him, but knew that he was too young to be out on his own near a busy road, so they bundled him up and called PAWS.Rusty's a cute, affectionate swirled buff tabby, and he is VERY relieved to be rid of the fleas that had nearly sucked him dry! When he was brought to us, the first thing we saw were nearly a dozen fleas scurrying about on his tiny face! A PAWS volunteer treated him immediately, and for two days, we must have combed away a gazillion dead bodies. Think of how poor Rusty must have felt! He's now looking pretty dapper and will be able to be paired with a kitten buddy by this weekend. He's been hollering at us all week, telling us how lonely he is for companionship, so he'll be excited come Saturday morning when he can romp and play with others!

SaigeSaige's bio at the time of adoption: This is a picture of a GENTLE GIANT. Although his muscular and imposing body would suggest a lion’s ruly personality, he is truly a gentle king. Let Saige tell you in his own words what he is like; this is what he has to say when we interviewed him...
I get along with other cats and I would love to go to a home where humans appreciate having a little lion around the house. I am told that my meow sounds a little like a roar, and that my mane has grown back in. I have a large appetite and I especially love soft food. I love being brushed - it makes me feel loved. On that note I love being held too because I like humans. I usually hang out wherever they are in the house. I am really well behaved and I don’t fuss, hiss, bite, scratch, nor growl and do well in changing environments. I have also learned to use a scratch pad.
Life was tough before I came to PAWS, but now I am looking forward to being with my new mom and dad and possibly other cats to ‘hand about’ with. If you like a laid-back cat with an appetite for the jungle scene, I am yours!
Thanks for listening,
Saige

SoxSox's bio at the time of adoption: EXTRA! EXTRA! Read all about it! Former White House cat available for adoption at Centre County PAWS!Uh, oh….wait a minute - something not right here. Yeah, we've got "Sox"... but Sox Clinton is black and white, right? Unless we have our pictures messed up, OUR Sox is tabby with white....and he's less than a year old! Sox Clinton left Washington nearly 4 years ago. Come to think of it, the one-time first cat was named "Socks", not Sox. Okay….so Bill and Hilary did not swing by State College and leave their cat with us. ("Socks" apparently went to Virginia with Clinton secretary, Betty Curry, when his White House days were done).
"Sox" was born right here in Centre County, and at 11 months of age already tips the scales at 13.3 lbs.! Sox has the biggest feet that we've every seen on a cat! They are white, hence the name. Sox and his feet are huge! Lovers of big cats out there, take a good look at this guy. Like so many of the large fellows who've been at PAWS, Sox is a very gentle fellow. He plays well with the other cats and is not at all opposed to being picked up, held and hugged. He will definitely carry on a conversation with his new owner….provided he isn't trotting about with his play mouse in his mouth. And he isn't planning to change the spelling of his name and head for Washington, New York OR Virginia anytime soon

SyrusSyrus's bio at the time of adoption: Hi there! I'm Syrus, and I've been at PAWS longer than anybody, even longer than Tanner. I had emergency surgery for a large bladder stone shortly after I arrived, and this got me off to a rocky (get it?) start. I didn't feel well and was totally confused by what was happening. My brother found a new home very quickly, so there was just me and my hurting tummy. All of that's fine now, although I'm on a lifetime diet for urinary health. Don't be fooled by my shy and unassuming demeanor. Foster mom will tell you that I'm much more than meets the eye....the "strong and silent type", she says. I really love to love people, and my favorite ways of showing it are with my eyes and my front paws. When I'm happy (which is most of the time), I knead whomever or whatever is closest to me. I give great neck and scalp massages....but be sure my nails are trimmed! I love to play fetch, but basically I'm a calm, collected guy who likes to chill out on the couch, in bed, or in the window. Children would probably find me a bore. -- Syrus (Ed. Note: Syrus is a cat who knows how to RELAX....let him show you how it's done!) |

TedTed 's bio at the time of adoption: I'm TED…..got that? T-E-D….NOT Tess. If you don't know about the Tess/Ted fiasco, please read my poem under the section "see how Ted has been progressing." I didn't find this very amusing, but I think you will. All these hot-shot cat people….vets too….and they can't tell the difference between a Tess and a Ted?!? Why didn't they just ask ME?Anyhow, now that I've weathered that storm, I want to make darned sure nobody gets this mixed up again. So I've established myself solidly and unequivocally as king of the mountain at the PAWS Center. King-of-the-Mountain, you hear? Not queen-of-the-hill. Well, enough of that. I, too, can laugh about it now. So how did I get to PAWS? My previous owner finished school, left town, and left me behind in her apartment, with a huge open bag of Ole Red dogfood to keep me company. Nothing else…not even any water! Nice of her, wasn't it? And dog food, for cryin' out loud….talk about an identity crisis! The landlady who found me was very kind and brought me to the safety of PAWS. I'm about 2-1/2 yrs. old now, medium-hair, all black as you can see from my mug shots. I definitely have an "in charge" air about me, but after all I've been through, I simply had to take control of my destiny. Deep down, I'm a sweetheart and I'm mellowing day by day. I do have to keep some of the other Center cats in line from time to time, and that can get me in trouble, but when I'm in a home of my own and have some space, I'll be in my glory. Although I've never met a dog up close and personal, I think I might like them, and I really think I'd like an opportunity to go outside...not a lot, just a breath of fresh air once in awhile. Please give me a chance. Once my mellowing out is complete, I'm gonna be a curl-up-by-the-fire, hunk-a-burning-love. --TED

TinkerTinker's bio at the time of adoption: Hi everyone. I'm TINKER. Used to be called "Stinker," but the PAWS folks didn't like that. Were afraid "Stinker" would imply something about my personality or, even worse, about a bodily function that could be…well, downright embarrassing! The name was all in fun and I didn't mind it, but I'm happy with the new name too.I'm one of the many cats who were "evicted" from the N. Atherton Street trailer park which is now almost completely torn down. My story is a little different from some of the others, however, in that my person moved not too far away and was permitted to take me along. Being a cat, though, I had no idea what was going on and the first time my person's roommate accidentally left the door slightly ajar, ZOOM, I took off for home! Yup, crossed a couple of not-so-busy streets, then busy N. Atherton. Made it safely, went off in search of my old place, but it wasn't there! Dad frantically came after me, took me back to the new place and tried to explain. But doggone, I still didn't get it, and the next time I had a similar opportunity, off I went again. This time, Dad feared for my life and reluctantly decided to let PAWS find a new home for me farther away from the old stomping grounds and with a family who would be more careful about keeping their doors firmly secured. This was very hard for him to do.
I'm a one-year old, neutered, medium-haired black fellow. Very calm, laid-back…nothing much bothers me….except this business about losing my home. I'm currently in a foster home where there's a dog, another cat and two small, very active children. Know what? I'm getting along just fine with all that. Yeah, I'm a really cool cat…affectionate, I like everybody, and yes, I do control my bodily functions just fine, thank you. -- Tinker

TobyToby's bio at the time of adoption: My name is TOBY (that's short for TOBIAS). At 10 years of age, I'm the senior man at the PAWS center. 10 cat years is equivalent to 56 human years - did you know that? Now I'll just bet there are some of you humans in your 50's who still feel and (when your partner isn't looking, of course) act like kittens! Am I right? Well, I have plenty of kitten left in me. I'm loving, playful, and I can jump really, REALLY high! No stodgy old couch potato here!So at age 10, how in the world did I lose my home? Well...sigh...I was brought to the Center, along with housemates Natasha and Pierre, because our person was moving way far away "to start a new life"?without us. This is the second time this has happened to me. This "new life" person adopted me when I was 6 from another person who moved and couldn't go to the trouble of taking me along. This is NOT fair - I'm too nice a guy. If you could even consider taking off without me, read no further. I'm looking for a lifetime home, whether my lifetime will be another 10 big ones or maybe only 8 or 6. I'm in good health except that I had a bladder stone removed last year and must be examined annually to be sure this doesn't happen again. If you maintain my prescription diet, that will go a long way toward preventing a recurrence.
Please give me a chance to spend my senior years worry free. I'm neutered, front-declawed, current on my vaccines, and have no bad habits except an occasional nip when you brush me too hard. Despite my bad experiences, I really like people, and I'm good with children and other cats.

She had been found outside, all alone....no mom, no siblings, no worried owner searching frantically for her. She is living proof of the strength of the "will to live". We're guessing that Toodles will be a tall, lanky adult, but she has filled out nicely and has a very sweet temperament.

TrinityTrinity's bio at the time of adoption: This 1-1/2 year old black and white beauty is thrice sweet, sociable and smart…thus her name, "Trinity." Trinity is also quite a talker, and if you listen carefully, this is the story she'll tell?"I'd finally recovered from birthing and caring for my family when …you're not gonna believe what happened! The vet said it looked like I had ringworm (eeeww!), so I was isolated in a tiny cage forever while they grew something called a "culture". The culture was negative?no ringworm…so all that time confined and alone and I didn't even have it! Freedom at last? Nope…I was then taken straight away to have that operation (you know the one I mean). With all this behind me at last, I'm looking forward to meeting someone who appreciates an approachable, fun-loving and lovable cat. I've been in three foster homes (there's that magic number 3 again!), and although I appreciate these good people giving me a place to hang out, it's time that I find a home I can call my own. "My first foster mom will tell you how well-behaved I am - no fussing in the car, no hissing, biting, scratching or growling despite not knowing where I was or what would happen next. What happened was that I got my first warm bed, lots of good food, and catnip! I LOVE to roll my face in that stuff and then gently nod off to sleep. While "mom" played my favorite music (I prefer soft instrumental), I'd hold out my paws and let her trim my nails. How 'bout that?! "In foster home two, I demonstrated the "monkey" in my genes. I "leaped tall buildings", climbing, swinging and peering down from the highest points in the room. Now, I've got twin beds and hooboy, do I enjoy jumping back and forth between them! Foster mom three will tell you how smart I am. With just a brief demonstration, I learned to use my scratching device and I use it faithfully. I love to be petted and hugged, I come when she calls and I enjoy chatting with her as I follow her around. With all these facets to my personality, I never get bored and I guarantee, you won't get bored with me! Thanks for listening. - Trinity
(Trinity's "ringworm" turned out to be an allergy. Although the exact cause is unknown, a prescription diet has been keeping it well under control).

When she came to PAWS, Yas was "with kitten," although her delivery of tiny "Souvenir" came as a complete shock to us all. (Follow the link below to read a poem about this startling event). Her little one was quickly adopted, but shy, scaredy-cat Yas remains with us almost a year later.Yas spent two months in a foster home last summer, and although she adjusted well to the family's other animals, she merely tolerated human contact. In another foster home during the recent holidays, Yas showed definite signs of wanting to cast off her shell. Ever seen a cat stand on her head?!? Yasmine's way of opening up was to do just that, teasing and enticing her foster mom to stroke and rub her all over. Oh so briefly, she'd nuzzle and purr, but as images of past mistreatment apparently returned, she'd tense and seek refuge where she thought she couldn't be seen. A minute later, a head would peer over top of her kitty bed, and so long as foster mom remained quiet and still, she'd jump out and start the whole routine again. Jazzy Yaz-a-ma-taz, as she is fondly called, will require patience, time, and a person willing to measure early stages of progress in inches. The nature and extent of what happened during her first year of life isn't exactly known, but despite it, Yas doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She clearly wants to heal, to trust, and to be loved. She'll present a challenge at first, but the reward will be enormous for the gentle person who gives pretty Yas a chance to "be all that she can be."

YenaYena's bio at the time of adoption: And now entering on the runway to your left, meet supermodel Claudia Schi…. Wait a minute…that's not Claudia! Who IS this tall, slender, leggy, absolutely gorgeous blond?? Why it's YENA, an 8-month old teenage (in cat chronology) sensation, well on her way to a successful modeling career. She definitely needs to put a little meat on her bones, though, or she'll end up being the 21st Century edition of Twiggy!YENA is the last of an absolutely striking family of kittens, known at the PAWS Center as the "money" kittens. Yena's brothers were named Peso and Franc, her sisters Penny and Lira. It's uncertain whether some country actually uses a currency called a yena…or whether "Yena" is a female yen! We're guessing the latter. (Smile) In addition to having great career potential, Yena is a sweet, loving, but very frisky and athletic young girl. She climbs the "tower" at the Center and peers from atop the world like she's ready to pounce. This is all show. Actually, she's very lonely and frustrated now that her siblings all have gone into good homes and she's been left behind. Unfortunately, the girls of this handsome family suffered through a rather persistent bout of ringworm and could not be spayed until it cleared. Once it did, Penny and Lira went first because they had approved adoptions, but Yena is still anxiously awaiting her surgery so she can get on with her life. This will be done before she is released into a new home, but she would like very much to be spoken for NOW.
